Default Question about Moesha & Q's engagement in the final season

Long story short, Moesha was on the rebound from Hakeem (after catching he and Niecy kiss) when she hooked back up with Q. In Q's last episode ("All this & Turkey too"), he and Moesha broke off their engagement after disagreeing on Mo's engagement ring. Q wanted to sell the engagement ring to finance some new rap group he was producing. Mo viewed the ring as a symbol of their love and commitment. She wanted to keep the ring and find alternative ways for Q to fund his group. Q felt Mo was being materialistic and selfish by keeping the ring. By the episode's end, the two called off their engagement and split for good.

Whose side were you on? Mo's or Q's. Would you have given up your engagement ring to support your fiance/significant other?

This show's discontinuation may have been caused by Monique Imes-Jackson's popularity in UPN.

Neither! Both were being selfish it only proved they was too young for marriage. I wish they kept moving forward in that music world. I was ready for a new direction. BRANDY was ready to leave the show, once the parkers and girlfriends started getting more popular she was allowed to leave. The show was never cancelled.

That episode was the ultimate "clash of values," and looking back, it really highlighted how much they had grown into different people. If we’re picking sides, Moesha was 100% in the right here, and Q’s behavior was a massive red flag.

Why Q Was Wrong
Q’s argument that Moesha was being "materialistic" was a classic case of gaslighting.

The Symbolism: As Moesha pointed out, an engagement ring isn't just jewelry; it’s a physical contract of commitment. Asking her to sell it before they even made it to the altar suggested he valued his "hustle" more than their future stability.

Financial Irresponsibility: Using your fiancée’s ring to fund a "rap group" is a high-risk gamble. It showed that Q hadn't matured—he was still looking for the "big score" instead of building a life with a solid foundation.

The Entitlement: The fact that he felt entitled to a gift he gave her was the most uncomfortable part. Once you give a gift, especially one with that much weight, you don't get to demand it back to pay your bills.

Why Moesha Was Right to Hold Her Ground
Moesha was often "extra," but in this instance, she was being practical.

Alternative Solutions: She offered to help him find other ways to get the money. She wasn't saying "no" to his dreams; she was saying "no" to pawning their symbols of love.

Self-Respect: If she had given it up, she would have established a precedent where Q could always dip into their "emergency funds" (or her personal property) for his whims.

Would I Give Up the Ring?
In a marriage of 10 years where a family is starving? Yes, sell the ring. But in an engagement where the money is going toward a "rap group"? Absolutely not.
An engagement ring is a promise. If you’re already selling the promise to fund a hobby, the marriage is doomed before it starts. The split was necessary because it proved Q didn't respect Moesha as a partner—he saw her as a resource.

The "Rebound" Reality
You mentioned she was on the rebound from Hakeem and Niecy. That’s the real tragedy—Moesha only accepted that proposal because she was hurting and looking for "safety" in a familiar face. Q sensed that she wasn't fully "in it," which likely fueled his irritability and his decision to pick a fight over the ring
