Default Designing Women reboot is in the works

https://tvline.com/2018/08/14/design...orth-thomason/

Creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is shepherding a potential updated version of her hit 1990s CBS sitcom about four women (and one man) who work at an Atlanta design firm, which aired from 1986 to 1993, according to TVLine. She is developing the revival with Sony Pictures Television, which was recently revealed to be working on a potential reboot of The Facts of Life. The potential revival comes a month before Designing Women's CBS timeslot companion, Murphy Brown, is making a comeback with its own revival series. TVLine adds that the Designing Women reboot is expected to be "taken out to the marketplace soon," but it's unclear if any original cast members will be involved.

Horrible idea. Without Dixie Carter it will be stupid.

These reboots and reunion type shows are getting out of hand.

Might work, with the right casting. I'd give it a try. This was discussed a few years ago, but nothing came of it.

I miss her a lot. I will still given this a chance if they get Burke, Smart and Potts. It would be great to hear the perspective of their characters today.

Niles: That's right, absolutely nothing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go wash other peoples' underwear.

"Designing Women" TV Sequel Lands at ABC (Exclusive)
by Lesley Goldberg
Sept. 13, 2018

"Designing Women" just took a big step closer to its TV return.

Twenty-five years after wrapping its seven-season run, ABC has handed out a script commitment to what is being billed as a "sequel" to the CBS comedy from original series creators Linda Bloodworth Thomason and Harry Thomason.

The new "Designing Women" — which is a multicamera comedy like its predecessor — will follow the next generation of Sugarbakers with a crop of new, young, female designers at an Atlanta interior design firm.

The new version will still have the same razor-sharp dialogue and ability to cut through the political, cultural and social factions that rarely agree on anything. Bloodworth Thomason will pen the script and exec produce alongside her husband, Thomason.

The new take, which has been in the works for months with the ABC deal being worked out over the past few weeks, comes from the same studio that produced the original in Sony Pictures Television.

Sources say original cast members will occasionally stop by should the new take move to series.

"I'm very excited to be working with ABC. And Sony has always been a great partner for Designing Women. Normally, I'm not a fan of reboots but Designing Women does seem to have the right fengshui for all that is going on right now. We could definitely have some fun," Bloodworth Thomason told The Hollywood Reporter.

No thanks. It'll be a bunch of liberal bull.

The original series had a fair balance of politics but the new one will be 100% anti-Trump.

I'll just stick with my DVDs of the original series.

The question is whether the show will be a reboot, that is a new cast playing the core characters, or a continuation with the next generation, with (surviving) original cast members returning as regular characters or occasional guest appearances?

I'm not sure if Trump will still be in office when or if this show premiers with at least 5 different serious investigations going on. (he probably will be though)

Jean Smart wants to return to Designing Women for the potential ABC revival series
"I’m gonna try to definitely make an appearance,” Smart, who starred on the CBS sitcom as Charlene Frazier Stillfield, told Variety last night. “As a matter of fact, I was talking to (creator) Linda Bloodworth Thomason just today. It’ll be interesting to see. She hasn’t sent me the script yet.”
