Thede, the former head writer for Larry Wilmore's The Nightly Show, received rave reviews with the launch of her BET late-night show last October. "But the lack of renewal news after the show wrapped its initial 24-episode run in April was a sign that BET was wavering on a second season," reports Variety. Thede, the only black late-night talk show host, said of BET's decision: “I’m thankful that BET took a chance on me and the show,” Thede told Variety. “I’m already in development on several other projects and I’m looking forward to hosting the TCA Awards on August 4.” ALSO: Thede tweets thanks to "all of YOU. Except Ben Carson."

BET’s The Rundown had its chance but it should’ve won some viewers over. On the other hand, it may be a while before BET debut another new talk programming.

BET's cancelation of The Rundown with Robin Thede is a mystery

There was no mention of ratings performance in the reporting and BET's announcement of the cancelation of The Rundown, which received universally positive reviews. "It seems as if The Rundown was a casualty of a recent changing of the guard at BET," says KC Ifeanyi. "Chairman and CEO Debra Lee, who greenlit Thede’s show, stepped down in May, paving the way for Scott M. Mills to oversee strategy and operations for BET as president. Reportedly, Mills’s vision is to increase the network’s scripted content and original movies. How there’s no room in that vision for a late-night political satire show driven by an underrepresented voice in the conversation is perplexing to say the least."
