Default 'GOTTI' Whacked At Boxoffice

Here's some good news. The movie about John Gotti that his son tried to profit from has received hideous reviews and has bombed at the box office. For those of you that don't know, John Gotti Jr. was a mobster like his father, a criminal, and a true lowlife. Maybe some of you watched the Gotti TV show (whatever it was called) but I never did. Their exploits were well known. Gotti Jr. was a roid rage lunatic who hid millions in Mafia cash from the government and was prosecuted numerous times. So he 'went straight' by exploiting his POS family and trying to stay rich that way. Well, he tried to get this movie about his father made for years, hooked onto John Travolta, and the movie is a huge a failure as decent people could ever hope for.

Quote:
“Gotti” is dead with just $1,670,000 for its opening weekend. It’s Travolta’s lowest among regular openings based on theater count. But Travolta is used to low numbers– he’s had his share of disasters in his 40 year career but he always brushes himself off and keeps going.

It wasn’t like the warning signs weren’t there. “Gotti” had many false starts, producers who came and went, producers who had serious prison records, and so on. Everything pointed to this being a bad idea. James Toback had a screenplay that probably made more sense, but that was back when Barry Levinson was going to direct and the duo thought they could do another “Bugsy.”

I didn't know why we needed another Gotti film since Armand Assante's 1996 film was great. I saw that Travolta's Gotti is 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I also heard that Travolta's Gotti release was delayed due to its bad reception at Cannes and early test screenings. That's probably why Travolta came to Brooklyn recently so that he can draw as much attention as possible, at least in the NYC area, to the film.

That's exactly why he came to Brooklyn.

I kinda wanted to see this, but it doesn't seem to be playing at any theatres near me. And finding out it stinks , I don't feel as bad that I probably won't get to see it!

I was interested in seeing how Travolta would be in the role of Gotti. Last thing I saw him in was when he played Shapiro in the OJ Simpson mini series. He was a trip in that role !
