When she was younger, she was quite attractive. She wasn't exactly drop dead gorgeous like say Kristen Davis or Kim Cattrall, but she wasn't a hag either.

If you watch Honeymoon in Las Vegas

and

Striking Distance

and even Hocus Pocus

She was a very attractive young woman.

Unfortunately for her it seems that a combination of smoking, genes and poor decisions as far as makeup and plastic surgery have made her somewhat less “appealing”:

I was reading elsewhere that Sarah Jessica Parker may have benefited from the audience love for Julia Roberts from that particular time. Depending on your point of view or whom you ask, Julia Roberts really wasn't that good looking without that signature mane of hair. Having full wavy head of hair made an otherwise homely woman like Julia seem better looking than she actually was.

Sarah Jessica Parker at least on SATC had that same sort of affect. She had amazing head of hair, that skinny tiny little body that clothes look good on. And also like Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica had a really big and bright nice smile that eclipsed more or less by those other features.

No. If she were the Average person and not a celebrity; I would agree with you. But as celebrities go, she is a lot less than average looking. Keep in mind the competition of other female celebrities her age because THEY actually look much better.
