...signed up for in Season 1"
http://www.tvguide.com/news/christin...ses-the-voice/ The singer, who hasn't been a coach on the NBC reality show since 2016, was asked by Billboard if she'd ever return. Instead of responding, she hinted that she had soured on The Voice. "You realize it's not about music. It's about making good TV moments and massaging a story," she says, adding: "I didn't get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these (rules). Especially as a female: You can't wear this, can't say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet." Does Christina Aguilera's The Voice "churning hamster wheel" criticism hint at its larger problems? The NBC reality show revived the pop superstar's career in 2011, premiering weeks after she flubbed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, nearly fell at the Grammys and was detained for public drunkenness. The Voice gave her career a boost after she seemingly reached a plateau in 2010. So for her to take take shots at The Voice after two years off speaks to the flaws of the singing competition that has failed to produce a successful winner. Aguilera called the show a "churning hamster wheel" and an "energy sucker." “You realize it’s not about music,” she said. “It’s about making good TV moments and massaging a story. I didn’t get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these (rules)." Her comments seem to echo fellow The Voice judge Adam Levine, who has also criticized the show for not being serious about its winners. Christina Aguilera: The Voice wasn't a "comfortable place for me to be" The former Voice coach had more to say about her qualms with the NBC singing competition, telling W magazine: "I signed on to a show where the blind audition element was something interesting, something genuine. After a while, though, you start to see that everyone is good-looking. It wasn't a comfortable place for me to be, where I'm just part of a money-making machine. When I stop believing in something, then it's like, 'What am I doing here?'" ALSO: Aguilera says her departure had nothing to do with Gwen Stefani. |
