Default Lethal Weapon's future in doubt over Clayne Crawford's "bad behavior" on set

http://deadline.com/2018/04/lethal-w...es-1202374422/

Crawford, who succeeded Mel Gibson in the role of Martin Riggs for the TV reboot, "is making a third season a rather complex proposition" after he was disciplined for bad behavior, according to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. Andreeva reports she has "learned that Crawford has had a history of bad behavior on the show, and that he has been disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment. I hear the issue has escalated to a point where other actors as well as crew on Lethal Weapon would feel uncomfortable being on set with him. The problem is threatening the future of the show, with a recasting — a rare and dramatic move when involving a lead of an established series — being explored. Fox and Warner Bros TV declined comment." Crawford's behavior was first hinted at in a blind item that Michael Ausiello posted last Thursday. Ausiello confirms he was referring to Crawford when he wrote about a one-hour drama's "increasingly untenable 'personnel problem,' per a source. Turns out one of the series’ leads has become impossible to work with, and his massively disruptive behavioral issues are causing the network/studio to rethink bringing the series back."

"Lethal Weapon" Star Clayne Crawford Responds to Alleged Bad Behavior on Set
by Dino-Ray Ramos
April 24, 2018

In the wake of Monday’s news of "Lethal Weapon" star Clayne Crawford having a history of bad behavior on set, the actor took to Instagram saying that “yesterday’s headlines were incredibly distressing” and to clarify the news which Deadline broke.

It is true that I have been reprimanded twice during this past season of Lethal Weapon,” admitted Crawford in the lengthy Instagram post. “The first reprimand was because I reacted with anger over working conditions that did not feel safe or conducive to good work under the leadership of a guest director and assistant director who, in turn, were angry at my response.

As a result of the first incident, he apologized and completed studio therapy. He also said that he “shared a sizable portion of my paycheck with one of the parties involved per the instruction of the studio.

The second incident occurred when he was directing an episode and a piece of shrapnel hit an actor on set during an effect. He said he took responsibility for the incident because he was in charge on the set.

In the post, Crawford apologizes and praises the cast and crew of "Lethal Weapon" and says that he “would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs.

I am incredibly sorry if my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on our set, or feel less than celebrated for their efforts,” he adds. “Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because of these incidents.

I hope everything works out well for him and that he gets to stay on the show. I think he makes a really good Martin Riggs.

Report: Lethal Weapon's Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans have stopped speaking to each other

The Fox drama is in limbo not only due to Clayne Crawford's bad behavior, but because he and co-star Damon Wayans are reportedly at odds with each other. Addressing reports of his bad behavior, Crawford released a statement today saying that one of his two reprimands was for an episode he directed earlier this year, in which "an actor on set felt unsafe because a piece of shrapnel from an effect hit him." What he didn't mention was that actor is co-star Wayans, according to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "Following the shrapnel incident, Wayans was sent home for the day and when he returned to work, he set limitations to what he was willing to do in the episode, including not holding a gun or running down stairs, citing safety concerns," reports Andreeva. "I hear that led to an argument with Crawford, with Crawford using strong words to tell Wayans how he felt about him. I hear the issue went all the way to the high ranks of the studio, Warner Bros. TV. And while Crawford ultimately completed the episode, I hear the relationship between the two stars suffered irreparable damage." She says Wayans and Crawford, who star in a buddy cop drama, "now had stopped speaking to each other." Andreeva further reports that Lethal Weapon has been plagued with problems from the beginning, from not doing table reads "allegedly upon star Wayans' request" to not having a veteran showrunner on set who can "handle two very different stars coming from different backgrounds." As a result, Lethal Weapon is on the bubble, says Andreeva, "jeopardizing the jobs of dozens of cast and crew on the show and possibly costing Warner Bros TV a fortune in international sales should the globally recognizable title get canceled by Fox."
