Legendary puppeteer and Yoda actor Frank Oz isn't too happy with how Disney has been treating the Muppets franchise.

THR reports Oz believes that, despite Disney's best intentions with Kermit and the rest of the gang, it doesn't understand how to properly utilize Jim Henson's beloved creation.

"As much as Disney loves The Muppets and wants the best for The Muppets — and they truly believe they can do it — they don't get it," Oz said. "They don't get the true rebellion and true affection underneath those characters."

However, Oz thinks there's still some of that Jim Henson spirit still left in the property, and offers Disney a piece of advice on how to best move forward with the Muppets.

"By the way, I don't mean to knock Disney, they really want to do a good job," Oz said. "They've never asked me, and they have not asked the performers how to do it. If they just did that — the performers are so brilliant — instead of an outside person, let the performers lead. Then it would be a whole different deal. The audience would appreciate the purity of that."

Disney acquired the franchise back in 2004 and most recently revived the Muppets via an ABC comedy in 2016, which got canceled after just one season. It's reportedly now developing a reboot series for its upcoming streaming service. The Disney streaming service is expected to launch sometime in the fall of 2019.

I liked The Muppets on ABC. I think there is a lot of value with The Muppets.
