"Clarissa Explains It All" Reboot Starring Melissa Joan Hart in the Works at Nickelodeon (Exclusive)

Nickelodeon is rebooting another one of its former hits. The Viacom-owned cable network is in early discussions to reboot sitcom "Clarissa Explains It All", sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The reboot would see former star Melissa Joan Hart reprise her role as Clarissa Darling, only this time, she would play the mother of the family. Series creator Mitchell Kriegman is also in talks to return to write and exec produce. Hart will also exec produce via her Hartbreak Films banner, which she runs with her mother, TV producer Paula Hart.

Nickelodeon declined comment as deals with both Hart and Kriegman are not done. The project, sources say, is in early development at Nickelodeon.

This is great news. Although it won't be anything like Fuller House in its edginess, or like the novel that came out a few years ago, which I loved btw but was nothing like Nickelodeon's Clarissa. This should be fun and I will definitely be watching.

I met Melissa Joan Hart at the NJ Christmas Con and asked her about the status on the "Clarissa" revival. She said that, unfortunately, it doesn't look like that it will happen.

She said that there were "talks" about a year ago, but then Nickelodeon changed presidents and they felt that a "Clarissa" revival wouldn't work with their current programming.

Speaking of Clarissa, Hart revealed that, unfortunately, things are still currently on hold with the revival effort that first began gaining steam in 2018.

"It's still on pause," she confirmed. "I don't really know what's going to happen with it, but I'm still hoping that maybe the right time and the right kind of situation arises for it to make a little comeback."

Now that she is once again roaming the halls at Nickelodeon for "The Casagrandes", perhaps things will come together soon for her to deliver more of Clarissa Darling's clutch life lessons once again.

Melissa Joan Hart Criticizes Plot of Stalled "Clarissa Explains It All" Reboot

Melissa Joan Hart is attempting to explain it all when it comes to Nickelodeon's stalled "Clarissa Explains It All" reboot.

The actress revealed that the alleged plot for the planned revival of the popular 1990s sitcom wasn't to her liking, telling Insider that the story would have picked up with the titular character embattled in complicated family issues.

"I believe it was that Clarissa is divorced and moving to California with her two kids and living on the beach in California with her aunt," Hart told the outlet. "So, I don't know. It wasn't my favorite way in."

The 46-year-old actress also told Insider that even though a "Clarissa" reboot isn't in the works, she'd still rather revisit that character than the beloved sorceress she played on ABC's "Sabrina the Teenage Witch".

"Of course whatever I say I'm going to piss off half the people," Hart said, noting that revisiting "Clarissa" would be "more fun."

"I do feel like Sabrina wrapped up really nicely with her riding off on the motorcycle with Harvey," she said. "I think that ending on Sabrina was so iconic that I don't want to go back and try to recreate that and have another good ending."
