The book was also pulled from release, but the Goldman family bought the rights and released it the next year with the added title Confessions of the Killer. |

Fox’s "O.J. Simpson: The Last Confession?" Sets Analyst Panel with Christopher Darden, Judith Regan & Others
by Erik Pedersen March 7, 2018 Fox has set its analyst panel for "O.J. Simpson: The Last Confession?" — the special airing Sunday against "American Idol’s" ABC premiere that’s based on Judith Regan’s 2006 sit-down with the actor and ex-football star who was acquitted in his double-murder trial. Publisher and producer Regan will be on the panel along with Simpson case prosecutor Christopher Darden, Nicole Brown Simpson family rep Eve Shakti Chen, anti-domestic violence advocate Rita Smith and retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente. Soledad O’Brien hosts the two-hour program. The panelists will provide analysis and context for O.J. Simpson’s wide-ranging, no-holds-barred interview with Regan from a dozen years ago. Simpson gives a hypothetical account of the events that occurred on the night his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were brutally murdered outside her West L.A. condo. During their conversation, Simpson, in his own words, offers a detailed description of what might have happened on that night in June 1994. It will air from 8-10 PM Sunday with limited interruptions and will feature public service announcements on domestic violence awareness. http://deadline.com/2018/03/o-j-simp...ox-1202315449/ |

Fox got the approval of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman's families to air O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession?
Executive producer Terry Wrong predicts Sunday's two-hour special will be a "TV event." He notes that O.J. Simpson wasn't paid for the original 2006 interview, though he was paid for the book If I Did It that he was promoting. Wrong also says that they sought the approval of both victims' families to air the special. “Both families feel that he’s guilty and he got away with murder,” Wrong said of why the families no longer objected to the interview being showcased. “Their attitude is, he’s going to hang himself.” ALSO: Host Soledad O'Brien says this was the most bizarre TV show she's ever worked on. O.J. Simpson was almost on one of the greatest Simpsons episodes Showrunner Al Jean revealed this tidbit on Twitter hours before Fox's O.J. Simpson: The Last Confession? aired: "Ironically OJ Simpson airs on Fox 25 years to the day after the episode we asked him to be in (pre-murders) and he turned down." Jean says "fortunately" Simpson passed on the 1993 "Last Exit to Springfield" episode, which is regarded to be one of the show's Top 10 episodes on many Simpsons lists. O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession? brought Fox back to its "tacky, tawdry shock-TV past" "There wasn’t much there there" in the two-hour special that mostly rehashed everything you probably knew about O.J. Simpson's marriage and murder trial, says Kristen Baldwin. She says O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession? was a product of the "tacky, tawdry shock-TV past" that Fox evolved away from many years ago. "But then," Baldwin says, "ABC stole Idol out of their trash heap, and something in Fox snapped. Panicked, angry, and desperate for something to premiere against this unholy Idol, Fox found something taped to the inside of their toilet tank — an emergency stash so old, they may have even forgotten they ever had it in the first place. Yes, O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession? is the programming equivalent of finding your meth-addict buddy on the floor of his apartment, face-down in a puddle of his own sick." ALSO: Fox tried to make old news relevant by putting it in the context of powerful, famous men abusing women. |
