Hm... My parents were married for 43 years (up until my dad passed away), but I don't believe that they watched much TV together. So I don't see why a couple should have to watch the same shows. Sure, it is good to spend time together. But if there's going to be friction over this in the relationship, it is better to spend some time apart and watch what you like separately.

Now, there is so much selection of two channels and choices, probably most couples and most families watch different TV programs in seperate rooms, and now people are using the Internet to watch their shows on Demand, and now people can watch their TV programs literally everywhere on Earth. I can go to a McDonalds in Beijing and watch Young Sheldon while enjoying my Chinese made Egg McMuffin.

Towards the end of my parents marriage before my mother's death, she watched TV in her room while my father blared FOX News 24 hours a day. She would watch a lot of ID (Investigative Discovery).
