"The more tension there is, the funnier it is," says executive producer Bruce Helford, who points to upcoming storylines including an episode about a Muslim neighbor and Dan facing competition from people hiring illegal immigrants. "Another taboo we addressed was the opioid crisis," says executive producer Whitney Cummings, "which is this thing we're seeing in the news, but it's not being tackled on (scripted) TV, certainly not network TV. But what I've always loved about Roseanne is the show's ability to have these incredible dramatic moments in a multicamera sitcom with an audience sitting there, not laughing 'cause an incredible dramatic moment is playing out, whether it was when DJ wouldn't kiss the black girl at the school play or Jackie's domestic abuse. We thought maybe this could be one of those episodes."

Hopefully they keep the political conflicts at bay with this new show, I don't wanna see a show were everything is politicized.

The best years of Roseanne were seasons 3 and 4, when they were more concerned with being funny than “breaking taboos”.

So far, not bad. The show doesn't feel heavyhanded, has had a couple twists, and there's more humor in the topics than I would have thought. Am looking forward to later episodes and if the feel and tone is the same, it's then unsurprising the show got renewed so quickly. I have to admit, those who renewed it would have seen enough of the episodes before the rest of the nation gets a chance to. Sad that it's only 13.

And it feels like a continuation from season 3 or so (not quite season 4, which was a little more cartoonish but still at the top of its game), not the later seasons that strayed too far from the show's original feel and premise. Season 5 was when the show first started to go downhill...
