...y Schumer made for a standup special
http://www.newsweek.com/monique-netf...appelle-785821 The Oscar winner wants Netflix to be boycotted "for gender and color bias” after she says she was offered $500,000 for a standup special. LOL. Like Monique is anywhere near Schumer’s current level of success. I wouldn’t pay that has-been Monique $50,000 for a standup special.
And Monique, if you’re worth that much, then certainly another outlet would offer it to you. No? Then I guess you’re not worth it after all. |

Cliff notes: First, Mo'Nique let winning an Oscar award go to her head. There have been many actresses who have won the Oscar award and seen their careers decline afterward. They start to demand too much money and end up pricing themselves out of work. Secondly, Hollywood is a very closed society. If she wants A-list work, she has to pay for A-list representation. PERIOD. It doesn't matter how long she has been around or how successful she was, A-list work goes to A-list agents and managers. Her husband representing her was a HUGE mistake. Mo’Nique: Here’s a copy of Netflix's contract to prove I was offered $500,000 for a standup special The Oscar winner posted a copy of the contract proposal on Instagram after rumors circulated that she had actually been offered $3 million. The proposal gave Netflix exclusivity over any future Mo’Nique comedy specials, at least for two years, while also restricting the use of her jokes. |

Mo'Nique Sues Netflix for Race and Gender Discrimination
by Helen Murphy Nov. 14, 2019 Mo’Nique, the Oscar-winning actress and comedian, is suing Netflix for racial and gender discrimination. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the 51-year-old actress (né Monique Hicks) is accusing the streaming service of offering her less money for a stand-up special than her fellow male or white female comedians. The 39-page lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday. In the lawsuit, Mo’Nique accuses Netflix of giving her a “biased, discriminatory” offer of a “talent fee” of $500,000 for a stand-up comedy special around November 2017. The lawsuit references numerous other comedians’ offers, including Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle and Amy Schumer. According to the lawsuit, she is seeking unspecified damages. https://ew.com/celebrity/2019/11/14/...iscrimination/ |

Netflix responds to Mo'Nique's gender and race discrimination lawsuit
The Oscar-winning comedian sued Netflix for offering her $500,000 to do a standup special, while other comedians make much more. Netflix responded to the lawsuit saying: "We care deeply about inclusion, equity, and diversity and take any accusations of discrimination very seriously. We believe our opening offer to Mo'Nique was fair -- which is why we will be fighting this lawsuit.” |

Netflix Loses Move to Axe Mo’Nique’s Sex & Racial Discrimination Suit Over Comedy Special Pay – Update
by Dominic Patten July 16, 2020 Subscribers and revenues may be up for Netflix, but a federal judge has denied the streamer’s second motion to throw out Mo’Nique’s racial and gender bias lawsuit against the now Ted Sarandos co-CEO’d company. The comic and Precious Oscar winner, real name Monique Hicks, says the $500,000 she was first offered by Netflix in 2017 for a stand-up special was not just an insult but illegal. Her gender and racial discrimination filing of last November over pay for a potential comedy special cites the tens of millions reportedly paid to the likes of Amy Schumer, Ricky Gervais, Ellen DeGeneres and Dave Chappelle for their Netflix specials. In rejecting the streamer’s motion to dismiss, Judge Andre Birotte Jr. said yesterday, “Mo’Nique plausibly alleges that, after she spoke out and called her initial offer discriminatory, Netflix retaliated against her by shutting down its standard practice of negotiating in good faith that typically results in increased monetary compensation beyond the ‘opening offer’ and denying her increased compensation as a result.” “While Netflix argues that the novelty of Mo’Nique’s claim and the absence of on-point legal authority for it should bar her retaliation claims outright, the Court disagrees,” the U.S. District Court judge added in a slap to the streamer. https://deadline.com/2020/07/netflix...ay-1202786367/ |
