The once-woeful NFL team will appear in the NFL playoffs on Sunday for the first time in a decade after going 10-6 during the regular season. Jacksonville Jaguars used The Good Place’s Jason Mendoza as a good-luck charm for its first playoff game in 10 years Manny Jacinto, who plays a Jaguars superfan on the NBC comedy, was brought on the sidelines for Sunday’s Jaguars game, which Jacksonville won over the Buffalo Bills. “Jason made it back. Duval Til We Die and forever,” tweeted the Jaguars’ official Twitter account. ALSO: The Good Place has somehow willed the Jaguars to stop sucking. |

Why did The Good Place become obsessed with the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The formerly downtrodden Jaguars have won two playoff games and are headed to the AFC Championship game this weekend, yet nobody on the NBC comedy has ties to the Florida city and team that the character Jason Mendoza actively roots for. Writer/producer Joe Mande explains why Jacksonville was selected: “When we started writing it, we were like, what’s the opposite of a silent, meditative Buddhist monk? I pitched a kind of Steve Aoki, which became that he’s definitely from Florida. So what’s the funniest part of Florida? And I had just done a show in Jacksonville with John Mulaney, and everything about Jacksonville was cracking us up. It just so happened that the circumstances were that I had just been to Jacksonville, and it had a very profound impact on me. So we started talking about Jacksonville and just made it completely cartoonish.” The Good Place writers returned to work this week grappling with how to deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars being good “We just started writing season 3 two days ago,” producer Joe Mande said Thursday. “That was one of the first things brought up: What do we do now?” Meanwhile, The Good Place creator Michael Schur is predicting a Jaguars win over the New England Patriots this weekend, which could mean an Al Michaels name-dropping the NBC comedy during the Super Bowl. ALSO: Ted Danson explains what it’s like to portray a character who is constantly in flux. The Good Place apparently predicted the Jacksonville Jaguars choking Earlier this season, Jason Mendoza asked Ted Danson’s Michael if the Jags would make the Super Bowl. |
