It's an old book but I haven't seen it discussed here and liked it. It explained a lot about the the show that I did not know.
Has anyone else read it? |

I have not read it, although I'd like to. I first heard of the book in an episode of "NewsRadio." George Lindsay was a guest star (playing himself) and in the episode he signed a copy of his book. On the DVD commentary, the writers explained that they read the book and because of that, they wanted him to appear on the show. They mentioned that he seemed quite happy that they were fans of his book.

That sounds like some of the pity parties I've heard, with these former child actors sitting around a table and complaining about the raw deal they all got. (None of them brought their bank books and revealed their balances.)

That's true - a good bit of the book, maybe the last third? is him kvetching away. I didn't care for that either. Most of us reading the book aren't millionaires or famous either, and never got the change to be either.

Yeah, I've got it. I found it at a Goodwill and had to buy it.
I liked it. He was pretty candid in it. It was one of those autobiographies where you feel like the guy is just shooting the breeze with you. And isn't that how a book about Mayberry(mainly) should be?

George Lindsey was nearly cast as Gomer Pyle before Andy Griffith insisted on Jim Nabors
