Default What will happen to TV shopping after HSN merges with QVC?

https://www.racked.com/2017/12/13/16...ping-ecommerce

“The world of home shopping can feel like a relic from a bygone era,” says Jasmin Malik Chua, “a place where faded celebrities, reality-show stars, and overexuberant pitchwomen hawked everything from leather purses to fitness equipment. Home-shopping channels were something you flicked through on wakeful nights before Netflix and on-demand streaming gave you better options. They were a panacea for the lonely and homebound, who filled the quiet with that distinctive patter. But television commerce isn’t going the way of the mail-order catalogue, at least not without a fight.”

We need a whole lot less shopping channels and more retronets like Antenna TV and Me-TV widely available. And of the channels Comcast offers, I would gladly get rid of all the shopping networks in exchange for Sundance, the Encore stations (they have become good again with Mad About You), Teen Nick for their primetime Boy Meets World, and Logo. I was going to say Pop but they have pulled The Love Boat yet again.

When HSN debuted as Home Shopping Network a long time ago it brought a whole new world to television along with a new way of going shopping without having to drive to the nearest shopping mall by purchasing items by phone. But it wasn't until QVC was launched in 1986 that this new invention of shopping channels would soon take off and become huge in TV. Soon after HSN got bigger and attracted more shoppers they added more interesting items and soon became a celebrity paradise by having celebrities such as fitness expert Tony Little Jack LaLanne supermodel Iman chef Curtis Stone and many other celebrities have exclusive deals to sell their own products on their channel. And with celebrities helping to sell exclusive products it really has helped HSN a lot. After HSN used this celebrity secret QVC decided to copy HSN and had celebrities selling their own products exclusively starting with the late Joan Rivers clothing line and today even though Joan Rivers is no longer alive Joan Rivers clothing line is still a huge moneymaker for QVC and by teaming up with sports stars and a NASCAR sponsorship deal to sponsor a race car and racing team in the 90's QVC was on a roll. Even with newcomer shopping channels such as EVINE "Formerly Shop NBC" HSN and QVC are still #1 in shopping channels. And in the near future the world of shopping channels will replace malls and maybe soon stores such as Target and Sears will develop their own shopping channels like JCPenney did in the 80's and 90's. As for the upcoming merge between HSN and QVC I think they will still offer the same prices on items and make a whole new audience of shoppers buy their stuff and will make HSN and QVC fans very happy to see a whole new look for HSN and QVC
