Exclamation Update: Louis C.K. Responds to Sexual Abuse Claims: "These Stories are True"

Louis C.K. Accused of Masturbating In Front of Women: NYT Report
by Greg Evans
November 9, 2017

Comic, actor and producer Louis C.K. is the latest star to be accused of sexual misconduct. An expected expose in The New York Times has just landed, and the story includes numerous allegations that C.K. masturbated in front of unsuspecting women.

Now,” writes The Times, “after years of unsubstantiated rumors about Louis C.K. masturbating in front of associates, women are coming forward to describe what they experienced. Even amid the current burst of sexual misconduct accusations against powerful men, the stories about Louis C.K. stand out because he has so few equals in comedy.

The article starts with a 2002 incident in which a Chicago comedy duo Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, performing at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo., were invited to hang out with C.K. in his hotel room.

He was a comedian they admired,” The Times writes. “The women would be together. His intentions seemed collegial. As soon as they sat down in his room, still wrapped in their winter jackets and hats, Louis C.K. asked if he could take out his penis, the women said.

They thought it was a joke and laughed it off. And then he really did it,” Ms. Goodman said in an interview with The New York Times. “He proceeded to take all of his clothes off, and get completely naked, and started masturbating.

Other women making similar accusations in The Times story include Abby Schachner, comedian Rebecca Corry and a fifth woman who spoke on condition of anonymity to protect her family’s privacy.

The Times reports that C.K.’s publicist Lewis Kay said the comedian would not respond to the article.

Looking at what's gone on with Hollywood lately I don't know if Bill Cosby is really a surprise at least to the people out there. Out in the boomdocks we were fooled.

FX Says Louis C.K. is "Under Review" after Sexual Misconduct Claims
by Michael O'Connell
Nov. 9, 2017

In the wake of the latest damning testimonials against a prominent entertainment industry figure, Louis C.K.'s future TV and film prospects are in doubt — and he's got a lot of them.

He has creator and executive producer credits on two current FX comedies, Zach Galifianakis' "Baskets" and Pamela Adlon's "Better Things". (His titular series Louie hasn't aired a new episode since 2015 and its future is up in the air.)

A statement from FX Networks and FX Productions reads:

We are obviously very troubled by the allegations about Louis C.K. published in The New York Times today. The network has received no allegations of misconduct by Louis C.K. related to any of our 5 shows produced together over the past 8 years.

FX Networks and FXP take all necessary actions to protect our employees and thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct within our workplace. That said, the matter is currently under review.

These stories change our perception of C.K.’s work. It’s not only unavoidable, it’s a necessary part of processing art and coming to terms with it

Louis C.K. Breaks Silence on Sexual Misconduct Claims: "These Stories Are True, I Wielded Power Irresponsibly"
by Kimberly Roots and Ryan Schwartz
November 10, 2017

Comedian Louis C.K. has issued a statement regarding recent sexual misconduct allegations levied against him by five women.

Quote:
I want to address the stories told to The New York Times by five women named Abby, Rebecca, Dana, Julia who felt able to name themselves and one who did not.

These stories are true. At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d–k without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your d–k isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.

I have been remorseful of my actions. And I’ve tried to learn from them. And run from them. Now I’m aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who admired me feeling badly about themselves and cautious around other men who would never have put them in that position.

I also took advantage of the fact that I was widely admired in my and their community, which disabled them from sharing their story and brought hardship to them when they tried because people who look up to me didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t think that I was doing any of that because my position allowed me not to think about it.

There is nothing about this that I forgive myself for. And I have to reconcile it with who I am. Which is nothing compared to the task I left them with. I wish I had reacted to their admiration of me by being a good example to them as a man and given them some guidance as a comedian, including because I admired their work.

The hardest regret to live with is what you’ve done to hurt someone else. And I can hardly wrap my head around the scope of hurt I brought on them. I’d be remiss to exclude the hurt that I’ve brought on people who I work with and have worked with [whose] professional and personal lives have been impacted by all of this, including projects currently in production: the cast and crew of Better Things, Baskets, The Cops, One Mississippi, and I Love You Daddy. I deeply regret that this has brought negative attention to my manager Dave Becky who only tried to mediate a situation that I caused. I’ve brought anguish and hardship to the people at FX who have given me so much, The Orchard who took a chance on my movie, and every other entity that has bet on me through the years.

I’ve brought pain to my family, my friends, my children and their mother.

I have spent my long and lucky career talking and saying anything I want. I will now step back and take a long time to listen. Thank you for reading.

FX Cuts Ties with Louis C.K. Following Sexual Misconduct
by Lesley Goldberg
Nov. 10, 2017

FX is cutting ties with Louis C.K. following the comedian and producer's sexual misconduct.

Quote:
Today, FX Networks and FX Productions are ending our association with Louis C.K. We are cancelling the overall deal between FX Productions and his production company, Pig Newton. He will no longer serve as executive producer or receive compensation on any of the four shows we were producing with him – "Better Things", "Baskets", "One Mississippi" and "The Cops".

Louis has now confirmed the truth of the reports relating to the five women victimized by his misconduct, which we were unaware of previously. As far as we know, his behavior over the past eight years on all five series he has produced for FX Networks and/or FX Productions has been professional.

However, now is not the time for him to make television shows. Now is the time for him to honestly address the women who have come forth to speak about their painful experiences, a process which he began today with his public statement.

FX Networks and FX Productions remain committed to doing everything we can to ensure that all people work in an environment that is safe, respectful and fair, and we will continue our review of all of these productions to ensure that was and is the case.

I've never watched this guy. People made a big deal about him so I watched a few minutes of his standup act on cable. He's not funny. He's dirty. I don't mind if someone is dirty and funny but dirty and not funny is just dirty. He's another moronic liberal who does whatever he wants while savaging Republicans as if he's some kind of moral authority. In short, I have no use for him. All that being said, if you are guilty of what he did, what he wrote above above is about as good as you can do.

Default The shady side of Louis C.K.

Quote:
Louis C.K. seemed untouchable. He's one of the biggest comedians on the planet, selling out arenas on tour, making movies, and even doing voiceovers in cartoons such as*The Secret Life of Pets (2016). Unfortunately, comedy's redheaded golden boy may have some skeletons in his closet that aren't going away.*

Pamela Adlon on Louis C.K.: “Devastated” after his “Admission of Abhorrent Behavior
by Erik Pedersen
November 10, 2017

Pamela Adlon, a longtime friend and collaborator of Louis C.K., today issued a statement reacting to his confirming allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple women.

Hi. I’m here. I have to say something. It’s so important. My family and I are devastated and in shock after the admission of abhorrent behavior by my friend and partner, Louis C.K.

I feel deep sorrow and empathy for the women who have come forward. I am asking for privacy at this time for myself and my family. I am processing and grieving and hope to say more as soon as I am able.

Adlon and C.K. have a long history of collaboration. In addition to co-creating FX’s Emmy-nominated "Better Things" together, they co-starred as spouses on HBO’s 2006-07 sitcom "Lucky Louie", and she recurred as his on-again/off-again love interest Pamela on FX’s "Louie".

She also was a producer and wrote for several episodes of that series, picking up two Emmy noms for Outstanding Comedy Series, one for writing and another as Guest Actress in a Comedy. Adlon also earned a Lead Actress Emmy nom for "Better Things" this year.

Louis CK’s downfall may be a sign of a much-needed comedy crash
“If comedy is to grow, it needs to be inclusive and open to change,” says New York Times comedy critic Jason Zinoman, who thinks a shakeup is desperately needed. "Much of comedy right now feels stagnant,” he says, “dominated by the same handful of stars with a flood of talented young performers struggling to break out. When’s the last time a new stand-up superstar came along and changed the game? Will Ali Wong’s special next year make a difference? After two booms, comedy has become such a staple of so many people’s pop-culture diets that it’s not going to suddenly dry up. But it could benefit from the disruptive spirit that sparked the second boom.”

Dave Chappelle criticizes Louis CK’s accusers
Chappelle discussed the sexual misconduct allegations against CK, Kevin Spacey and Charlie Rose in his new The Bird Revelation special. The CK allegations, he said, were “like the turning point….His allegations was the only one that made me, like, laugh.” Chappelle criticized one accuser, in particular, saying that she had a “brittle-ass spirit” for alleging she had her comedy dreams ruined by CK’s masturbation.

FX Boss John Landgraf on Network’s Louis C.K. Sexual Harassment Investigation: TCA 2018
by Anthony D'Alessandro
January 5, 2018

Following sexual misconduct allegations made against Louis C.K., FX Networks and Productions cut ties with the multiple Emmy winner and said it would conduct a further investigation to see if there was any misconduct on his FX shows.

Today at TCA, CEO John Landgraf said, “We didn’t find any issues or complaints of any kind during the eight years we worked together.” That said, C.K. isn’t returning in the near future.

When asked if he heard about the allegations about C.K. prior to The New York Times exposé, the CEO said: “We didn’t know about that them. … There was a piece in Gawker, which isn’t a viable source.

Landgraf said that when the news hit, he had a phone conversation with C.K, and the comedian said he was releasing a statement that acknowledged the allegations. Following that, Landgraf said FX and C.K. would part ways.

As to whether Landgraf will restore "Louie" into FX’s digital streaming service, the CEO said: “I don’t know. There’s bigger and more important issues than the question of that. This is a cultural movement.

Regarding C.K.’s future, Landgraf said: “I don’t know what’s up with Louis. We’re in a wait-and-see mode.
