Default A Mad About You revival? Paul Reiser says he’s “talked about” it with Helen Hunt

http://people.com/tv/paul-reiser-hel...t-you-revival/

“If we can find the story to tell, and anybody’s interested, I’d be open to it,” says Reiser, who’s currently appearing on Stranger Things. Reiser tells People Magazine: “For years, I would’ve said, ‘Absolutely no. We never would do it,’ because I was very proud of how we ended it really well. We even told the future a little bit, so our thinking at the time was, ‘Let’s make sure we never get tempted to come back. Let’s tell them what happens.’”

I would love to see a "Mad About You" revival! It was my favorite show for all seven seasons. I think it would be great if it came back!

A Mad About You revival would be a whole lot better than the lousy shows like Will and Grace and Roseanne that have been coming back so far.

I can understand what you mean about "Will and Grace". I have watched all of the episodes of the reboot. I will agree that it is pretty bad. The story lines are way too far fetched. In any event, I think it would be interesting to see what a "Mad About You" reboot would be like.

Mad About You revival could end up on CBS
“It has been pitched; it is still being discussed,” says CBS Entertainment senior executive vice president Thom Sherman of the network's discussion with Sony TV Studios, which has signed Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt to reprise their famous NBC roles. According to TV Line, the revival "would revolve around Paul and Jamie grappling with empty-nest syndrome in the wake of now-17-year-old daughter Mabel’s admission to college."

Oh, their daughter would be big now, huh? They aren't going to pick up with her babyhood and further?

Paul Reiser on a Mad About You revival: "My guess is it won’t happen"

"It’s kind of stuck in the business end of it now," Reiser told the Tampa Bay Times on Monday. "Sony is trying to figure out from their end; that’s where I just walk away and go, call me when you figure it out. I don’t know what happens at that level. They make their deals with whoever they make their deals with. So we’ll see if it happens. It may not happen. It likely won’t happen. My guess is it won’t happen." Reiser and Helen Hunt signed deals with Sony TV in April to reprise their famous NBC roles. Reiser says of the revival being in potential limbo, "It’s like, ‘You know, guys, I was very happy not doing it for 20 years, and then you invited us back. And now if you can’t make it happen, it’s not a big deal.’ Things happen, they don’t happen." Reiser says if a Mad About You revival does indeed happen, "it wouldn’t go to NBC, probably. In a dream world, it would be on a streaming (platform). I don’t know if we’re going to do it, but if it did come back, I would much rather do it on a streaming platform than a broadcast."

Paul Reiser: Helen Hunt and I are still willing to do a Mad About You reboot

“For a long time we discussed never doing it, and then we said, ‘You know what, it could be actually fun.’ And we’ve kind of actually said sure,” Reiser told Variety on the Emmys red carpet. “And now the studio needs to figure out if they know how to do it.”

Helen Hunt Confident on "Mad About You" Reboot but "Resigned from Handicapping When or If”
by Peter White
February 21, 2019

Helen Hunt is confident that a reboot of classic 1990s comedy "Mad About You" will happen but told Deadline she’s “resigned from handicapping when or if.

Hunt said that there had been “zero” developments since 2018, when the project looked to be picking up steam. Sony Pictures Television had tapped top comedy showrunner Peter Tolan to write and showrun the revival, and Hunt and Reiser were closing deals to reprise their roles.

She said, “We’re right where we were. It’s not not going to happen and it’s not set. The news is that nothing has moved in one year. It’s a little bit frustrating. I am rooting for it. I sort of think it will happen, but I’m sort of resigned from handicapping when or if. We would like it to happen if it can.

This comes six months after her co-star Paul Reiser, who created the NBC comedy with Danny Jacobson, claimed he was not optimistic about the revival’s chances.

We signed up, and then it’s gotten stuck in the business end of it,” Reiser told the Tampa Bay Times in July 2018. “It’s like, ‘You know, guys, I was very happy not doing it for 20 years, and then you invited us back. And now if you can’t make it happen, it’s not a big deal.’ Things happen, they don’t happen. There’s so many moving parts when you’re working with a studio or broadcaster.

The sitcom ran between 1992-1999 and won multiple Emmy and Golden Globes.

The new installment would pick up 20 years after we last see Paul, played by Reiser, and Jamie, played by Hunt, with the couple navigating their marriage, going through the trials of middle age and dealing with their unpredictable, hard-to-control daughter Mabel.
