Bed size has increased in the Western world, in the last few decades. king and queen-sized beds were generally not available until the late 1950s, and didn't catch on for a while. Double beds, smaller than queen-sized beds, were much more common.

Yep!!

The bed my parents had when I was a kid and still had for many years was really small! Just a double! Seemed like there really wasn't enough room for two people to sleep comfortably in!

Hey, at least they didn't sleep in two single beds like Lucy & Ricky and Rob & Laura.

uhh - maybe because they needed it small enough that they wouldn't have 6 kids and a maid trying to crawl into bed with them every time there was a thunderstorm

In the first place, what show are Rob and Laura from? On top of that, another example of a husband and wife who slept in single beds is Mr. and Mrs. Howell.

I suppose that's why there were more children per household back then.

Perhaps the rise of larger shared beds led to the decline in marriage longevity. It all starts with a fight about the covers.
