Default 7 Cancelled Soap Operas We Wish Would Return

http://www.fame10.com/entertainment/...streamview=all

Quote:
Daytime dramas are a slowly dying genre. There was once a time when you could turn the television on during the day and have a plethora of soap opera options to choose from, but these days there are only four shows left for fans to sink their dramatic teeth into as many shows have been cancelled along the way. At one point or another over the years, soap opera audiences have had to bid a fond farewell to one of their favorite shows. Below is a list of seven soap operas, which were cancelled, that we wish would return.

I want "All My Children" to come back to ABC not some crappy digital service.

It's never going to happen. The days of the daytime soaps are long gone; I'm frankly surprised there are any left.

That's not a knock; I enjoyed several for many, many years. But the audience just isn't there anymore, and honestly, the last decade or more of these shows was embarrassingly bad. Nobody over the age of 40, entire casts that looked like they had just stepped off a GQ or Glamour shoot, inane dialogue and ridiculous, over the top plots.

Nope, stick a fork in them; they're done.

All My Children, One Life To Live, Guiding Light, As The World Turns should all come back. It's better than what's on now.

Ryan’s Hope is one they could have rebooted, focusing on widowed Frank Ryan and his adult children (John, Mary, and I’m sure he and Jill had one more). And you could throw in appearances from Delia, Roger, Faith et al while focusing more on the younger generation.

But Retro is correct. The days of the 5-day-a-week daytime soap opera are coming to an end.

If done right, I could see soaps making a comeback in the future. Honestly, the ratings couldn't be any worse than on those other crappy primetime shows.

No mention of the great As The World Turns, but they want that piece of crap Passions back? I think I'm going to be sick.

I agree. Passions was fun until Josh Ryan Evans died. After that, the show became an actual soap opera and shunned the supernatural element for stories of incest and backstabbing. They should have included Dark Shadows on the list instead. For supernatural soaps, Dark Shadows is hands down the best. Not even that crappy rip off Port Charles could compare. For them to steal the vampire story and reincarnation of the vampire's true love was dumb. At least Passions was original in their supernatural storylines and never ripped off Dark Shadows.

All My Children is the only show I'd be interested in coming back. I've been watching the classic Janet episodes from All My Children on YouTube. If that show was ever released on DVD, I'd buy the entire 90's episodes in a heart beat. All My Children was the soap to watch back then. So many great episodes, actors, actresses, and storylines. I miss this show a lot.

^Port Charles was good the first few years until they started doing those stupid story arcs.

I also LOVE the Janet episodes of AMC! So classic.

I agree. Out of all the soaps that have come and gone, I miss ATWT and the citizens of Oakdale the most!

Soaps want it both ways.
The women 18-49 or 18-34 is a very important demographic, but the 2 CBS soaps don't write for women unless the women is needy or a psycho.( I can't comment on the other 2 soaps.)

The viewers the soaps want the most (the other being the younger viewers) are the viewers that have mostly tuned out.

Yes, soaps are done but since the networks have nothing to replace the remaining 4 with, they don't seem to want to cancel them.

I agree with the top 4, but I agree with you guys as well, ATWT should definitely be on this list over that horrid Passions.
