I am a fan of both shows, and are following both series currently.
The Orville is a fun show, and it is somewhat similar to the 1990's Star Trek shows. It does have some off color humor, but it isn't Family Guy. It is a bit like The Next Generation but with more flawed people. Their characters and universe is not as perfect or utopian as the Star Trek one either. The stories are getting better and will get even better as time goes on I feel. There are several people from the 1990's Trek shows who are involved in this plus the series has booked several A LIST stars for cameos or special guest star roles. Be warned, a lot of critics DO NOT LIKE The Orville, however according to Rottentomatoes.com, a vast majority of people who watched the show rate it positively. Before the first episode, the critics were dumping on it, and we got concerned it would suck, and were relieved that it is the critics who suck and should go eat a Tribble. Star Trek Discovery to me is very well made, and I have really enjoyed it. I was prepared to hate it, but have again really liked it a lot. It is much different than the other shows, and one has to suspend canon, and preconceptions of what the other shows to enjoy this one. Not a fan of this franchise, but it's like the newer Battlestar Galactica show and the old 1970's Lorne Greene series. It is a reimagined version. A lot of Trekkies are very religious about this show (really) and will not accept this show, and a lot of them heap negativity on it because it isn't what they know or used too. Discovery to me has an interesting story, a more real sci-if feel, a beautiful, flawed and interesting main character and a serialized storyline. It is to me something that you have to closely follow to get. It is very good, and again, most of the haters are stuck in the 1990's, old shows and storylines and a feeling a lot of them haven't watched the show. Funny thing is that the haters do not like The Orville because it isn't Star Trek although ironically it is the closest to what they want in their show. Can't please them. Oh well. Both shows are very good for different reasons. Enjoy. |

Thank goodness The Orville isn’t like Family Guy. It proves Seth McFarlane has a little class.
