Default New ABC Comedy 'The Mayor' Offers 'Liberal Fantasy Retelling' of Trump Election

ABC’s latest series The Mayor follows an all-too familiar plot for people on both political sides. A political novice runs for office to self-promote his image. However, once he connects to the heart of what voters want in contrast to phony candidates, he unexpectedly comes away with a victory. With a worthwhile plot that balances decent humor with heart, it just goes to show that even liberals can come to accept the Trump scenario. That is, if the scenario comes through a black man.

Default ABC’s The Mayor is succeeds because it tackles the Trump era without delving into cur

http://www.vulture.com/2017/10/the-mayor-review.html

The ABC comedy “manages to simultaneously serve as a commentary on Donald Trump and, at least in its pilot, which airs Tuesday night, not engage with actual current events at all,” says Jen Chaney. The Mayor, she adds, “is certainly showing us what it looks like when a person seeks office for selfish reasons and then has to figure out how to lead without experience, or a plan, or even a clue. But it’s also showing us what it looks like when that person happens to be a black man who knows what it means to be an average person with real struggles.”

The Mayor creator has worked for Chris Matthews and Mindy Kaling
The Mayor is too rushed, too unfunny
The Mayor has a self-assured quality right from the get-go, starting with its charming pilot
Tony-winning Hamilton star Daveed Diggs, a Mayor producer, writes star Brandon Michael Hall raps for every episode: “What we’re asking Brandon to do is crazy"
