Do you think that Young Sheldon will be successful?

It depends on how good the writing and casting is. And it will largely be on how well the young actor playing the child Sheldon is at capturing the character.

If I can see him growing into the older, neurotic Sheldon, then it will work.

I am curious to see how this show will evolve.

Interestingly, they're not filming this the same way they do BBT. It is being filmed single camera with no audience.

I loved "TBBT" since episode one, now they are giving "YS" the prime after slot, but I've seen the pilot, but even if I didn't my answer to the thread question is a GIANT NO!

Moment I heard about it, I thought worst idea ever since rebooting "The Munsters" for a 4th time! LOL

I love children, but first the young actor looks just plain obnoxious, in the promo pic holding his bowtie, I am not violent, don't believe in hitting, so I say in this in jest only.....I want to slap the s**t out of him just from the photo!

Its all based in the written word on the page and the actor, but what Jim plays perfect as an adult, is just plain painful, annoying when a child plays superior to adults and the adults all just take it.

I want to be called out if Im wrong, (though I am only returning to these boards for a short time with limited posts till Labor Day) But even with the timeslot, this idea is almost tragic to do with a beloved highly rated sitcom and milk it before the original even goes off the air!

If you had to do anything Mr. CL, you should have somehow combined all the characters as children not knowing eachother of course, and center on three or so in each episode, Penny living in hicksville farm country, Leonard and his problems with his mother, Raj in India, etc.

But just having that little brat will sink the series in 13 or less dreadful episodes, for historians put this one in the archives, it won't last long!

TBBT is geared towards young viewers, right? Maybe their kids will want to watch YS.

I still stand by my opinion, unless Jim Parsons narrates, it could help, as for the poster who mentioned it not be filmed in front of a live audience one factor is a child usually is not prepared to handle it.

Plus it gives the producers/writers more freedom for location work, since BBT hardly leaves the four basic sets.

I still think somehow combining all the characters as children living separately naturally is a much better idea, plus would be cute maybe that Penny was only called by her last name as a child, hence we don't know it yet as an adult, even though she has movie credits.....LOL

I wonder if this show was part of getting Jim Parsons to sign a new deal? I read that some of the actors were offered their own production deals, I think Kaley took cash instead.

If it is part of his deal I wonder if there was an agreement as to how many episodes must be done? Since Charlie Sheen was able to get FX to agree on 100 episodes after an initial 10 achieved a certain ratings, it is possible this show gets at least a full season.

A kid can't handle that role and Lorre must know that. It was probably a dumb spinoff idea that CBS bugged Lorre and Parsons to get involved in for a pile of money. They'll get paid, make a few episodes, it will bomb and be forgotten so quickly that it won't effect their careers at all. Very savvy of them.

Elsewhere, I've heard the argument that a show like that is pretty much doomed to fail because Sheldon Cooper himself is such an irredeemable, insufferable and borderline sociopathic character. They never out and out explained that he's on the autism spectrum to "rationalize" (in essence, Sheldon was originally clueless and not is just downright mean for the sake of being mean) or explain his behaviors. But even so, how exactly would that be funny?

So on that end, is the point of Young Sheldon supposed to somehow cast light on why he is who he is and make us root for him? I mean, we already know how he turns out so how can any show about his past do his character any good? The fundamental problem with that sort of premise, this show will likely be that just like Sheldon's arc on The Big Bang Theory (where over time we're supposed to take it that he learns how to socialize, how to be empathetic, how feel real emotions and be a friend).

Unless the show is really funny regardless (and thus, is the whole point a la Seinfeld), it's very difficult to make a show where the main character doesn't develop and never grows. And any character development would pretty much undermine the significance of the character development he faced on [i]The Big Bang Theory[/i.]
