It's probably because of what happened towards the end of the series.

Fran Drescher: I’d be up for a reboot of The Nanny
“As far as a reboot goes, I would be open to it if somebody wanted to do it — but if nobody wants to do it, then I'm currently trying to develop something else," said Drescher, who adds that she keeps in touch with her former castmates. |

A lot of the situations they had on the original show would have lent themselves to great stage songs, particularly the theme of marriage across "class" lines - both Fran and Max and Niles and CC. CC's change in personality once she sleeps with Niles in Yetta's Letters reminds me of all the "I'm loosening up / being myself / saying how I really feel" songs in Broadway and Disney, such as "Let It Go" in Frozen. As for Daniel not buying Niles/CC - I think there was always sexual charge behind the insults. If they could have gone right from Season 4, where the some things happened that seemed like they were moving toward a relationship (The kiss in The Pen Pal; the date in The Nose Knows; and CC's emotional reaction to Niles' heart attack) to Season 6, when they got together, it would have worked better. But because Lane had to leave for a while to have a baby, they had CC have to go to a mental health facility because of Niles' treatment of her (i.e., pranks). Kind of messed up the progression toward a relationship, and really wasn't necessary. So, yes, the progression of the relationship and how it happened wasn't entirely believable - BUT I don't agree they were oil and water. I think they were very alike in some ways, perhaps more than Fran and Max were. |

I think they could have done a 10-years-later spinoff with Fran, Maxwell, and the twins living in LA, and Maxwell working in TV. But now - feels like they’ve waited a little too long.

I have to admit I'm also not a huge fan of the moving-to-California ending. I think having the series end on a high note from the standpoint of the success of the company was a good idea. But that could have been done with Yetta's Letters winning the Tony, and/or some other successful plays.

I would love a revival with the original cast. It would be interesting to see how they are doing 20 years later. Good writers could make it interesting. She could easily be a nanny to the grandkids bevaise that does happy. Or she's opened a nanny day care from the house. Just b3vause she was no longer the nanny. It was being the nanny that got her where she was.
I'm probably in the minority that would rather a revival than a reboot. |
