I mean, if he was that incompetent...Although in this clip, I'm not sure he was to blame.

Even worse, Lou passed on the opportunity for Ted to quit to host a game show in New York. The $ offered kept going higher & higher, but Lou kept telling Ted "You are a newsman". After Ted finally passed on the offer, Lou told him "I didn't say you were a good newsman".

That was a hilarious scene. I literally fell out of my chair when I saw it about a year or so ago, and it still makes me a great laugh. I'm looking forward to seeing this one on Me-TV soon, as the network is getting into Season 7 of the show now.

My memory is that Ted's show was highly rated and he was personally popular, so if Lou fired him, he would likely have been fired himself.
There's no accounting for taste.

Ted was a moron, BUT probably did his job pretty well as a newsman. Yeah I know he goofed up on the air, BUT we the audience are only shown those, he could have other wise did really well. Honestly it mad me mad how Murray was so rough on Ted, I thought Murray went too far sometimes.

The episode where Ted applied and got the job to be a game show host at a much higher salary and fame than WJM could provide made little sense. Lou would be absolutely thrilled to get rid of Ted and would have told Ted in a direct firm way that he sucked a newsman, will make a great showman, pat Ted on the back on Ted's way out and then Murry and the two writer guys in back to his office for a toast of scotch from the bottom drawer and throwing papers from the desk with the same scene as when Frank Burns left MASH.
