Gave up on the show about five years ago, and even then, I probably stayed a couple of years too long.
The article is pretty dead on. People like what they like, but I barely manage to crack a smile when I watch new episodes anymore. I think making somewhat sympathetic characters like Brian and Meg into crass, selfish and amoral monsters is my biggest pet peeve, but the article lists tons of other reasons the show has gone downhill.
I read that McFarlane himself said they were only still doing the show because the fans wanted them to; that lack of enthusiasm sure shows in the writing.
