Default Crazed TV Show ‘Bleeps’ Out Trump’s Name Like Curse Word

Typically when the “bleep” sound is heard on television, it means that someone used an expletive or took something to the extreme. But not for Broad City, the Comedy Central show co-created by Ilana Glazer. On that show, when you hear the bleep, it means someone said the word “Trump.”

The horror.

Following in the footsteps of Hollywood’s attempt to take down the president at every opportunity, the fourth season of Broad City will bleep out every use of Trump’s name on their show. As llana Glazer told USA Today in an interview, “There’s no airtime for this orange (person).”

Originally, Glazer and her co-creator Abbi Jacobson wrote the fourth season thinking the 2016 election would turn out differently. And in fact, on previous episodes, the series has indulged Clinton with an incredible amount of hero-worship. Specifically, one episode involved Glazer’s character volunteering to campaign for Clinton.

But after “this game show host became president of our country,” Glazer decided to take a different route. She told USA Today that she was forced to rewrite most of the fourth season following Trump’s election.

The USA Today article also described an episode in the fourth season, which premiered at the Colossal Clusterfest in San Francisco. In the episode, the main character was losing “touch with her womanhood” as a witch, according to Glazer, because of the “danger” that people face during the current administration.

One has to wonder what sort of danger Glazer is seeing. Apparently, in her eyes, it’s dangerous enough to call for a complete obliteration of the POTUS’ name so that people aren’t offended.

by Kimberly Roots
July 25, 2017

"Broad City‘s" Abbi and Ilana are going to show up fashionably late to their own season premiere.

Comedy Central announced on Tuesday that the comedy series, which was originally scheduled to return on Aug. 23, now will be back on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 10:30/9:30c.

Default Broad City has become more grounded, growing up in Season 4 to reflect the Trump era

https://www.theringer.com/tv/2017/9/...eason-4-review

The Comedy Central series’ close association with Hillary Clinton burdened it with feeling “like a remnant of a bygone era — a cultural moment carbon-dated to the late Obama years, when coastal 20-somethings were optimistic about the trickle-down effect of representation and radical rhetoric,” says Alison Herman. She adds: “The good news is that (Ilana) Glazer, (Abbi) Jacobson, and the rest of the Broad City crew seem aware of the hurdles they face and have pushed themselves into new territory accordingly. Broad City’s fourth season is the most grounded the show’s ever been, infused with a newfound sense of maturity but still able to reach new heights of live-action-cartoon absurdism when it needs to.” PLUS: Broad City shifts from madcap to contemplative, Trump’s influence makes for an explicit plot point, and Abbi and Ilana talk about the Season 4 changes.
