TV CBS Cancels "2 Broke Girls"

CBS Cancels "2 Broke Girls" after 6 Seasons
by Natalie Abrams
May 12, 2017

"2 Broke Girls" has been canceled after six seasons, EW has learned.

The CBS comedy starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs has been averaging 7 million total viewers and a 1.8 in the 18-49 demographic, placing it firmly on the bubble for the first time in the show’s run.

It got a little more expensive and a little less popular each season. Plus CBS didn't own the show, WB did. It still never got bad ratings, but I guess it just didn't make enough financial sense for CBS to lease the show from WB anymore.

So anyone starting a "Save 2 Broke Girls" Campaign? Doesn't seem to be much demand for one on social media...

I tried to watch it, but the show was so crude, and honestly this comes from a fairly crude person. I actually like crude humor if it is done well (liked BOTH Bad Santa films, The Big Lebowski, and the series "Shameless" (U.S.). So 2 Broke Girls to me wasn't even good crude humor. I would be embarrassed to watch this show with some members of my family, especially my older parents. No television show shouldn't be where most all the family (people over 8 years old) can watch).

I also did not like the characterization of the Asian-American boss. He is shown as a weakling and a nerd, which is exactly the characterization that Asian and Asian American men are stereotyped as. I know there are some intelligent Asian American characters, but this was over the pale.

The best moment of the show I ever saw (and no, I have not watched the last three seasons of the show) was when Caroline (Beth Bahr who I find to be the more attractive of the two of them) get her "new pants", and plays a 'Fire is going to burn' while shaking that wonderful ass of hers in a twerk.

Also, life isnt sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex. Seriously. Sometimes I think these shows were written by teenage boys.

I have hailed 2 Broke Girls as one of the greatest guilty pleasures in the history of U.S. broadcast television, along with Two and a Half Men and the Fox Network's animated comedies.

I found myself taking a liking to 2 Broke Girls about a couple of months after its premiere, and since then, I have watched less than half of its episodes live. This includes its 6th-season finale, and I don't think it felt like a series finale. I was one of those people who thought there could be an abbreviated seventh season of 13-18 episodes for 2BG to wrap things up after what happened in the 6th season finale. Sadly, it was more of CBS's scheduling needs for the 2017-18 season than the fact that it's produced by an outside studio that resulted in 2BG's unexpected cancellation by CBS. After Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly each had proper a proper send-off in the past couple of years, I do not think it's fair that 2 Broke Girls can't get that same chance.

I think 2 Broke Girls should move to TBS like American Dad! and Cougar Town did after they were let go by their respective networks.

Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings Thank "2 Broke Girls" Viewers
by Greg Evans
May 13, 2017

Not that they’re hoping for a repeat of "Timeless‘" rare cancellation reversal, but the stars of CBS’ recently axed "2 Broke Girls" took to Twitter today to thank fans for the six-season ride.

"We've had a wonderful 6 Seasons as Max and Caroline and we thank all of you for watching and enjoying it along with us. We are so proud of our time on 2 Broke Girls and of all the things this experience has given us, the most treasured is our lifelong friendship.

With love,
Kat and Beth

I'm surprised but not shocked. All good things come to an end.

I hope the cast saved their money. I liked the show but it wasn't the show of the century.

OK, let's bring back some of the memories of this show: What's the funniest line or segment that you can remember? Yes, it'll probably be a sexual one as that was all things Broke. Mine, or at least the line I'm thinking about now was:

Caroline: Oleg, you've never kissed Sophie?

Oleg: Not on the lips of her face.

Funniest segment goes to the two Jewish boys, Shmuley and David in "2 Broke Girls and the Kosher Cupcakes". I thought I was gonna die laughing at them!

I would say I liked season 1 the best. Liked the one where Sophie moves in upstairs and is making noise. Max writes her the "horrible, horrible note - with threats" (I will gut you like a hog!) We find out fast that Sophie will eat most of their cupcakes throughout the show, but ironically, it was really Caroline who she hit it off with the best at the start, since Max wrote the note and stayed quiet. That changed fast though and Sophie liked Max much more the rest of the show, often to the point of totally ignoring Caroline, who she saw as a pretty empty person with little value.

Other moments?

More of these "big" stations are probably going to follow CBS's example and cancel more of their sitcoms too. Ratings are dropping more and more lately with people streaming instead. And more of these channels, like CBS, HAVE streaming apps and services where they can just unload their shows and crank out as many seasons as they like.

I liked it at first but it just got so far out there. I hope they at least had time to film a proper final.

I watched it once; honestly did not laugh once. Like most modern comedies, I just never believe these are real people I am looking at.

Sorry for the fans; like Sonny said, with six seasons they deserved a good finale.

I admit to being mesmerized by Beth Behrs, especially when she had her hair at its longest (with long bangs). I guess you could say I'll miss seeing her new work so regularly, moreso than the series itself. I'll still watch in syndication.

This is smashing sensational news, I think it lasted way too long and I was tiring of it, I like R-rated raunchy comedies but not when it's done on a TV show that is meant for family viewing.

The show had promise at first, admittedly low-brow humor but still. It seemed like the writers and producers became complacent. There really wasn't much growth in characters or story. I suspect that quick TBS rerun deal for good money kept it safe for a few seasons.

It looks like networks in the face of declining ratings are going to own the shows they keep in the future. I think The Big Bang Theory is going the be the last sitcom to get very high ratings and command top dollar for the actors ans production company.

Had CBS owned 2 Broke Girls it would have been renewed I think. The only other CBS comedy I watch is TBBT and given the brevity of the episodes I watch on DVD or DVR rather than sitting through all those commercials for 19 minutes of show some weeks.
