After 10 seasons rumors were flying that The Big Bang Theory was going to call it quits as 10 seasons is an amazing feat for any series, but especially a half-hour comedy sitcom. To the surprise of many, however, the show was instead renewed for two more seasons, but it can’t be ignored that even the biggest fans are starting to lose interest. The series has had huge success, some criticism, and many awards, but here are 7 reasons why we are ready for The Big Bang Theory to come to an end:

I don't really care about the reasons but The Big Bang Theory was a sad, pathetic show to start out with. They need to call it quits very soon and hopefully they will. Terrible show, and only has low ratings anyway.

I watched Seasons 1-6 a few years back and enjoyed it far more than I expected to. I just caught up through the end of Season 9, last season, over the last few weeks and yeah....I'm definitely seeing major cracks starting to form on the ground the show is standing on. It's still okay but it's not what it once was. It's basically turning into the new Friends, they've boxed the show in and it's really got nowhere left to go it hasn't already been. I'll stick it out to the end, I'm just hoping they can give it a respectable finale at least.

The article is definitely right, very few shows, let alone sitcoms, last to see 10 seasons let alone 12. The very few that have made it I have noticed what happens is ratings really drop rapidly over the course of season 11 and then crater hard either at the end of Season 11 or at the beginning of 12. Look at 2 1/2 Men...I knew the ratings were gonna crater the last year-year and a half but I was shocked at just how fast and rapidly it happened. I expected it to be more gradual. The same thing happened to Happy Days it's last few years though the ratings gradually died out rather than crater hard. Though they were younger when they ended Family Matters and Step By Step tanked HARD that season they moved to CBS! Different Strokes moving to ABC essentially same thing happened.

When a show is allowed to live it's full life it'll just reach a point where it's ready to go peacefully. Next season stability and creatively wise it should be okay. Ratings at this point next year will probably not be looking great. Season 12 is my concern. They need to be planning now for the finale in 2 years instead of keep it around indefinitely just for the sake of it.

I feel like CBS was desperate to keep the show. It is still popular enough and they don't have that next big sitcom. I read some items saying that some of the cast were allegedly tired of it and concerned about typecasting. But how many actors will ever get a chance to make around a million dollars an episode for over 40 more episodes. Plus the rerun money that will continue. Plus I'm sure there are production deals in most of those new contracts.

The show itself has morphed into a "Friends" direction. It seems that Howard, Bernadette and Raj at times are in a different show from Sheldon, Leonard, and Penny.

I don't see them risking a big shakeup so look for it to limp along to what I at least hope is a satisfactory end.

How right you are! IMO, Barney Miller, The Bob Newhart Show, and Perry Mason are sterling examples of that.

This post is excellent and a great summary of everything I've read lately in regards to the show. That whole cast is now facing the typecasting problem when this ends. Jim Parsons in particular will be facing it, he's become so known for and associated with Sheldon he's going yo have a very difficult time finding work when it wraps. Any work they do get will be nowhere near as successful as this show. The other issue is money..Johnny, Kaley and Jim keep asking for more and more money each season. Out past Season 12 it will just become prohibitively expensive for CBS to keep footing that bill.

CBS kept it a few more years to buy them time to find their next big hit, that's exactly why it got renewed. They've lost all their bigger shows these last few years and are desperate to keep TVs biggest show around just a little longer. If they'd already found that hit BBT would either not have been renewed at all or it would be just a 1 season renewal.

I don't expect the show to get shaken up anymore or taken in different directions either. They'll limp to the end with what they have now, what you see now is what it's gonna be till the end. I do hope they come up with a creative, fun and respectable finale. The character of Howard and Simon Helberg are what's still holding it up at this point IMO. I like the character, he's my favorite one on that show and I like the actor too.

This season that is now ending is that 10th season. And a few weeks ago it was announced that the show would get two more years after this. And I just have to ask, why???? The show is not what it used to be, though I can’t go so far as to call it awful. What started as a show about four nerds and the pretty blonde across the hall has moved way past that. I didn’t object when Amy and Bernadette joined the cast and the show evolved into the Friends knock off its become. But after all this time we have Leonard and Penny married, Howard and Bernadette married with a child, Sheldon and Amy living together and have even had sex, and Raj has overcome his problems talking to women. So, what is there left to do??

Now one could argue you can still do stories about the group raising their own kids. They’ve already started this with Howard and Bernadette. And forgetting that is about as far from the original premise that you can get, even if I accepted that what else is there? Besides having Leonard and Penny fight, again. Or Sheldon and Amy fight, again. Or maybe actually let Raj have a female that lasts for once. Oh I know let’s bring other characters in like the annoying Stuart or Bert who was in tonight’s episode. He was such a minor character that I had no idea who the heck it was when I saw the episode description. I guess we’re supposed to care about this guy now? I talked before about how it’s always a bad sign when show’s begin to create new characters for us to care about, it means even they know that there isn’t much left for the original characters anymore.

I’ve talked before about when good TV shows just don’t know when to walk away. Course this is par for the course for Chuck Lorre, whose Two and a Half Men went on far longer than it needed to. Some shows are smart enough to know that it’s enough and to end before they have totally drained it dry (MTM, MASH, Seinfeld, Friends, ELR). Others refuse to give up until the network kicks the show off the air, and usually by then the show is so lame it’s just painful (Coach, Will & Grace, Mad About You, Murphy Brown, Who The Boss, 3rd Rock…this list goes on awhile). And often those shows start to have trouble coming with new ideas, and we end up with wonderful things like the 9th season’s of Scrubs and Roseanne. And let’s not even get into why The Simpsons is still on!

Of course I could be wrong and the creators will come up with the big idea for next year that will reinvigorate the show and make it good again. But I have my doubts. So far all we’ve had this year is Raj having to move with Leonard and Penny which not only makes no sense but the creators have zero with it. Oh Leonard and Penny are arguing, great we haven’t seen that yet! And while Sheldon living with Amy has opened up some new ideas that also hasn’t really lived up to its potential. And obviously I have no clue what the final episode will be, but I’m sure they’ll retcon the cliffhanger like they do every year.

I wish the show had ended this year with a big final episode while people still care enough about it to actually watch. The reason I say this? This season has been soooo boring. The episodes have just been dull and the plots too reminiscent of previous episodes. And that’s what happens when the show refuses to acknowledge it’s time to pack up and move on. I will give credit to the actors for taking pay cuts to keep some of the actors on there, that’s pretty cool and shows there’s no ego involved, but really…end already! Not because it “isn’t funny” and not because “it’s stereotypes nerds”, but because the show had reached the point where there simply isn’t anything left to do with it. Hopefully in two years the finale will be worth it, though how the show will end is anyone’s guess since they hit all the character goals already as I mentioned. I guess there’s always the classic “we need to move away” cliche with the whole cast standing in an empty apartment hugging. Haven’t seen that one yet!
