TV NBC Officially Cancels "Taken"

"Taken" Renewed for Expanded Season 2
by Michael Ausiello
May 9, 2017

Never underestimate Bryan Mills: Despite mediocre ratings, NBC’s rookie drama "Taken" has been renewed for a relatively super-sized Season 2, TVLine has learned.

The series — billed as a prequel to the Liam Neeson-fronted film franchise — will produce 16 new episodes, nearly double Season 1’s order of 10. But it will do so with a new leader. Deadline reports that showrunner Alex Cary is moving on and the search for a new boss is underway.

"Taken" premiered in February to 7.5 million total viewers and a 1.6 demo rating, landing just below time slot predecessor "Timeless’" own apres-Voice launch.

Its freshman run run went on to average 5.3 mil and a 1.1, matching fellow NBC newbies "Timeless" and "Chicago Justice" in the demo, while besting "The Blacklist", "Blindspot", "Shades of Blue" and "The Blacklist: Redemption".

Default Why we never got to see Taken 4

Quote:
The TV show hasn't gotten great reviews

A few months after Taken 3 hit theaters, 20th Century Fox partnered with franchise creator Luc Besson to bring a prequel series to television. Homeland producer Alexander Cary developed the series, which he calls a modern-day origin story. Starring Clive Standen as Bryan Mills, the series premiered February 2017 and finished its 10-episode first season in May, earning renewal shortly after its season finale—although it picked up a new showrunner in the bargain, signaling a creative overhaul in the future. And while the Taken series survived its first round on the ratings bubble, critics weren't especially kind, calling it "pretty ordinary" and "a headache."

Viewers didn't stick around either

Just like with the movies, as long as the ratings are good, networks can dismiss a lack of decent reviews. Unfortunately, as with the movies, the Taken series suffered from both negative reviews and declining ratings throughout its first season.

The show started off with 7.45 million viewers with its premiere episode, and a 1.6 rating in the highly coveted 18-49-year-old demographic. After only four episodes, viewership dropped by three million and its ratings went down by 0.7. Despite a minor boost in the fifth episode, overall, fewer and fewer people tuned in weekly. The season ended with only 4.4 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in the desired demographic.

It's safe to say that the series wasn't quite the success Fox wanted it to be. It'll get another chance to prove its worth on the airwaves, but regardless of how long it airs, it looks like the TV adaptation will be the last we hear from this franchise…at least until the inevitable reboot.

NBC Pulls "Taken" from Schedule, Will Return in Summer on Saturdays
by Nellie Andreeva
April 18, 2018

NBC has pulled action drama "Taken" off the schedule, effective immediately.

The series based on the Taken movie franchise had been delivering underwhelming ratings in the Friday 9 PM hour, averaging 2million-3 million viewers and 0.3-0.4 adults 18-49 rating (Live+same day) over the past month.

According to the schedule released by NBC, starting this Friday, "Dateline NBC", which airs at 10 PM on Fridays, will be expanded to two hours, airing 9-11 PM. As for "Taken", word is that the remaining few episodes will air at 8 PM Saturdays starting May 26.

"Taken" already was considered a likely cancellation, and the scheduling move makes that certain.

I never saw a full episode but always watch it in channel surfing. I guess I not sure what the characters!
