Fox Cancels "Pitch"
"Pitch" Canceled by Fox after 1 Season
by Nellie Andreeva May 1, 2017 Fox has done the inevitable, officially canceling drama "Pitch" after one season. The move fully was expected — in anticipation of the cancellation, the show released all of its writers two weeks ago. The show’s cast and producers, including creator/executive producer Dan Fogelman and exec producer Kevin Falls, were informed of the network’s decision today. Falls and co-star Dan Lauria posted messages about the cancellation on social media. Here is Lauria’s message to fans on Facebook: Quote:
Starring Kylie Bunbury as the first woman to play Major League Baseball, "Pitch" earned some of the season’s strongest reviews when it debuted in the fall. Whether it was scheduling or other reasons, it never drew large enough viewership, though its ratings were pretty stable. In L+SD, the series averaged 3 million viewers and a 0.8 in 18-49. It was one of two new drama series Fox introduced in the fall that did not get back orders, along with "The Exorcist", which is expected to come back. http://deadline.com/2017/05/pitch-ca...on-1202081028/ |

I remember some hype about it but I'm not into sports so I wasn't going to watch it anyway, but too bad for the crew.

"Pitch" Star Kylie Bunbury Thanks Fans in Social Media Post
by Erik Pedersen May 1, 2017 The woman who played the pitcher on "Pitch" wrote a post-mortem on social media after Fox canceled the drama today after its rookie season. Bunbury played Ginny Baker, who makes history as the first woman to play Major League Baseball, pitching for the San Diego Padres. "Pitch" earned strong reviews when it debuted in the fall but never drew large enough viewership. Its ratings were pretty stable, though, averaging 3 million viewers and a 0.8 in 18-49 in Live+Same Day numbers. Bunbury wrote on Instagram: Quote:

Disney's 20th TV may revive Dan Fogelman's now-defunct 2016 sports drama "Pitch" as a carrot to entice the "This Is Us" creator to remain in-house after his network deal is up.

"Pitch" Revival Came Close to Happening but Couldn't Find a Home at Disney
by Lesley Goldberg Aug. 5, 2019 "Pitch" is being forced into retirement. The former Fox baseball drama from Dan Fogelman will not be revived after the "This Is Us" creator had reassembled the core cast — including Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Kylie Bunbury — and were discussing writers as well as prepping ideas for season two for original producers 20th Century Fox TV. The "Pitch" team — who were in the midst of plotting out the events of season two — were then told to hold off on making formal offers to writers and chatter about season two quieted. Eventually, 20th informed producers that season two of "Pitch" wasn't happening as the studio was unable to find a proper home as the show allegedly skewed too old and too sophisticated for Disney+. Sources note that other Disney platforms were discussed, but ultimately the series could not find a new home. Appearing Monday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour to support his new show, "mixed-ish", Gosselaar confirmed to reporters that "Pitch" was "pretty dead." "I hate to say that," he told Give Me My Remote. "I was even growing out my beard. It was right before The Passage's possible [season two] pickup, I was getting ready for Pitch. But at this moment, it's possibly on hold indefinitely." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...disney-1229455 |
