Jay North Was A Talent

Now that it's some 55 years later I look back on Dennis and wonder how Jay could be so talented and always give 100%. While I watch I think of the turmoil his young mind was in and the abuse he put up with on the set from his aunt and uncle. It was always kept from the other cast members and wish someone had found out. Looks like he's enjoying himself but just the opposite. Imagine putting all that stress on a young boy.

Plus losing an adult he seemed to have bonded with, Joseph Kearns.

It's a shame he was too scared to tell his parents about the abuse from his aunt. Or confide in Sylvia Field or Gloria Henry. Or maybe the mother of one of the other kids.

On the other hand it was a different time. Who knows what the reaction would be?

Jay North was definitely talented. He was in every scene, and had top billing on the show. I don't recall another child actor who had top billing.

Jay North is a very gifted and obviously very strong individual.

Yes, knowing some of the back story adds a sadness to viewing the episodes.

Glad to see that Jay North had overcome the troubled childhood and seems successful and happy that he found the career path he seems to have wanted in later years.

This may sound like a hot take of sorts, but has Jay North's performance on Dennis the Menace not aged well? What I mean is that did he oftentimes, come across as way too jovial and said every line at the top of his lungs and at the same time, so slowly?
