The episode featuring the Legion of Doom using the "Monolith of Evil", an ancient power source, to attack New York City. The foes first use the Monolith to shrink the United Nations Building. Then Sinestro uses the Monolith to cause one of the towers of what appears to be the World Trade Center to bend almost in half. I first you could argue that maybe it was not the Twin Towers since it didn't really look much like them other than being two tall buildings, but their location is clearly shown in New York City exactly where the World Trade Center was located. The Legion of Doom then uses the Monolith to damage streets and other structures before using it to block out the sun. The episode ends with the Super Friends using the same Monolith to repair all of the damage the Legion did. So, yes the Legion did attack the World Trade Center in the episode, but they also attacked many other New York landmarks. Do you think Cartoon Network should continue to air the episode or should it be shoved into storage alongside the Speedy Gonzales cartoons? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.geocities.com/tmc_132000/OdetoAuntMarie.html http://www.geocities.com/tmc_132000/The_Red_Couch.html http://www.geocities.com/tmc_132000/More_Maria.html http://www.geocities.com/tmc_132000/...ends_Game.html http://www.geocities.com/tmc_132000/...dventures.html |

I used to watch Superfriends about 30 years ago or whatever...I don't remember this episode, but maybe it would be better not to air it. Better yet, just burn it.

In this current climate, it is probably best to leave such episodes out of the loop for a while.
It is funny though, Cartoon Network had no trouble at all airing the Justice League pilot "movie" which featured a fleet of aliens laying waste to a big city (I think it was metropolis) with one reporter referring to the spot where the aliens landed as "Ground zero." And this episode aired less than a month after the tragic events of 9/11. |
