The CW's "Charmed" Reboot Ordered to Series
"Charmed" Reboot in the Works at The CW
by Lesley Goldberg Jan. 5, 2017 The CW is adding another reboot to its development slate. Following a prolonged negotiation, the network is reteaming with "Jane the Virgin" showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman for a "Charmed" reboot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The project received a script commitment from CBS Television Studios. The drama is described as a reimagining of the original TV series set in 1976. The reboot will be connected to the original series in some fashion, though it's not entirely clear at this point how that will come to pass. "Jane the Virgin" writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin created the story. The script will be written by O'Toole and Rardin. Propagate Content's Ben Silverman, who exec produces Jane alongside O'Toole, Rardin and Urman, will serve in the same capacity. "Jane" director Brad Silberling will also exec produce and direct the pilot. The "Charmed" reboot comes more than three years after CBS announced plans to remake the original series, which ran on The WB Network for eight seasons, from 1998-2006. The CBS reboot, which never went beyond the development stage, did not receive support from original stars Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan. "The thing about them doing a #charmed reboot is… it just… it feels like yesterday. It feels too close," Milano wrote. McGowan, meanwhile, thought the project lacked originality. "They really are running out of ideas in Hollywood," she wrote, adding: "lame lame lame lamertons." For The CW, the "Charmed" reboot arrives as the younger-skewing network is poised to say farewell to "The Vampire Diaries" with the future of its spinoff, "The Originals", unclear without the flagship. "Charmed" also marks the latest reboot in the works for The CW, which is already prepping "Dynasty" with "The O.C." grads Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...s-at-cw-961119 |

"Charmed" Stars React to News of The CW's Reboot: "We Wish Them Well"
by Andy Swift January 5, 2017 The announcement of a "Charmed" reboot pilot being ordered by The CW conjured mixed responses from diehard fans of the classic WB series on Thursday. But what do the original cast members have to say about it? Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell for all eight seasons, was the first to weigh in, offering kind words for the next generation of Charmed Ones. "We wish them well," she tweeted Thursday. Alyssa Milano, who played sassy psychic Phoebe Halliwell, followed suit shortly thereafter. She chose to send her love to the show’s fans, many of whom spent the morning tweeting at her about the reboot. "#Charmed fans! There are no fans like you. You're the best of the best." http://tvline.com/2017/01/05/charmed...eacts-prequel/ |

"Charmed" Update: The CW Boss Says Reboot will be Standalone Show
by Michael Ausiello January 8, 2017 The CW’s in-the-works ’70s-set "Charmed" reboot will not have any ties to the original, beloved WB series — at least not at this time, the network’s top exec said on Sunday. The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Assoc. winter press tour that, “At this point, it is a self-contained, self-sustained show. There is the power of three element in there, but at this time, it is a very standalone show.” http://tvline.com/2017/01/08/charmed...spoilers-cast/ |

The CW's "Charmed", "Lost Boys" Reboots will Be Redeveloped Next Season (Exclusive)
February 3, 2017 by Lesley Goldberg With all six of its pilot pickups locked in, The CW is already looking toward next season's development cycle. The younger-skewing network has opted to roll development on its high-profile adaptations of "Charmed" and "The Lost Boys" to next season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. With little room on its schedule, the network is sticking with six pilot orders this season — the same as last year. While neither "The Lost Boys" nor "Charmed" were among the orders, both hail from important producers to the network in Rob Thomas and Jennie Snyder Urman. Sources say the "Charmed" draft didn't come in the way the network had hoped and that Urman, who remains busy wrapping up the third season of the Gina Rodriguez critical darling didn't have the proper time to commit to it this season. Urman will take on a larger role in retooling "Charmed" for next season once she's out of the woods on showrunning "Jane the Virgin". http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...n-at-cw-971889 |

"Charmed" Star Holly Marie Combs Addresses Reboot
by Maureen Lee Lenker July 20, 2017 It appears the Halliwell sisters won’t be involved in the "Charmed" reboot, at least according to Holly Marie Combs. In a Charmed-themed “Throwback Thursday,” the actress shut down rumors of the reboot on social media, writing, “I’m sorry to say that all the reboot rumors are just that…. rumors. But here’s #tbt to our wood nymph days. In our defense it was really hot so we wanted to wear the least amount of clothes possible. Really hot. That’s my story and still sticking to it. Still. #charmed” http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/20/charmed-...resses-reboot/ |

Shannen Doherty Shoots Down Possible "Charmed" Reboot
by Chris Gardner Oct. 6, 2017 Shannen Doherty will soon be seen on Paramount Network's reboot of 1988's dark comedy feature Heathers in a role that's being closely guarded, but "Charmed" fans shouldn't be holding out to see that WB series magically brought back to life from the small-screen archives. At least not yet. "It's not happening," Doherty, 46, told THR from the red carpet at the Farrah Fawcett Foundation benefit before teasing something less definitive. "I mean, I just don't ever foresee it happening now." Why? "It would be far too soon, but I also don't think you need the original cast for a reboot. I know our fans really want us back, but who knows? We were basically a reboot of Practical Magic in its own way, so they could redo it, but now it should just rest." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ram...reboot-1045415 |

"Charmed" Reboot Gets CW Pilot Order, Adds "Feminist" Storyline
by James Hibberd Jan. 25, 2018 The "Charmed" reboot just landed a pilot order at The CW — plus has some really intriguing new story details. The update the 1998 fan favorite about a trio of sisters who are powerful witches will now have a rather progressive and topical take. Here’s the network’s official new description for the new incarnation of "Charmed": “This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.” In another shakeup, the reboot will be set in the present day. When The CW first announced the reboot last year the plan was to make it a prequel series to The WB original and set in the 1970s. That plan has now been scrapped. Writers Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin (Jane the Virgin) are writing the script. http://ew.com/tv/2018/01/25/charmed-reboot-pilot/ |

Holly Marie Combs Slams "Charmed" Reboot Plans
by Denise Petski January 26, 2018 Holly Marie Combs is not taking well to The CW’s planned reboot of "Charmed". Combs, who played Piper Halliwell on all eight seasons of the original series took to Twitter Friday to vent. “Here’s the thing,” Combs wrote. “Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.” She preceded that tweet with “And we wish them well.” http://deadline.com/2018/01/holly-ma...cw-1202270407/ |

After initially throwing shade at The CW’s announcement that it had ordered a pilot for a Charmed reboot, Combs offered a lengthier response late Thursday night: “Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work," she tweeted. Referring to her, Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan and Shannen Doherty, Combs added: “Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.” On Friday morning, Combs further slammed the revival’s “feminist” twist: “Guess we forgot to do that the first go around. Hmph.” |

The CW’s announcement that it has ordered a pilot for a “fierce, funny, feminist" reboot of The WB female-led series “sounds super millennial and I’m here for it,” says Princess Weekes. She adds: “As someone who grew up watching the show and owns the giant box set that is designed to look like the Book of Shadows, I can say that while I loved Charmed it does not age well as a series. The first four seasons are pretty good fun with some good storylines in Seasons Three and Four, but after the fourth season, everything just starts to fall apart.” |

Charmed casts Sarah Jeffery, Jennifer Lopez's Shades of Blue daughter, as the youngest of the three sisters
The 21-year-old actress will play the youngest sister, a bubbly college freshman who finds witchcraft at odds with joining a sorority on The CW revival of Charmed. According to Deadline, Shades of Blue has released Jeffery from her contract, but she'll be allowed to guest-star on up to four episodes of the NBC drama should it return for a fourth season. Jeffery joins Melonie Diaz, who was cast as another of the three sisters earlier this week. Charmed reboot casts The Man in the High Castle's Rupert Evans It's unclear whether Evans' casting -- as a professor named Harry -- would impact a potential fourth season of his Amazon series. Evans already wrapped filming The Man in the High Castle's third season. Charmed reboot finds its third sister The Tomorrow People alum Madeleine Mantock will play Macy, an "über-smart geneticist," on The CW reboot. She'll join fellow "sisters" Melonie Diaz as Mel, Sarah Jeffery as college freshman Madison. |

How does the Charmed reboot pilot compare to the original series?
The pilot, currently filming in Vancouver, appears to follow the rules of The WB series. |
