Question If all three originals (Farrah, Kate, and Jaclyn) stayed

Would the show have been as high in the ratings the whole way through if they had better scripts and the original Angels stayed the whole time? Or was it really just a novelty that ran its course. It was for better or worse, cheesy from the very first episode and the sex appeal of the actresses could only compensate for that for so long.

All TV shows tend to lose viewers over time.

Even though Cheryl did a great job replacing Farrah, I believe the show would've lasted longer with the originals.

Even if the scripts weren't the best, sex still sells. Besides the fact they were all gorgeous women, Farrah's bra-less-ness attracted a LOT of male viewers... I don't think men would've gotten bored with that 'novelty'.

The show lost even more viewers after Kate left.

The show had weathered one replacement (Cheryl Ladd replacing Farrah Fawcett) so it's pretty safe to assume that the powers that be figured that they could do it again. But I think they really underestimated the importance of Kate Jackson's character. Sabrina was seen as the de facto "leader" and she was the only one really believable (i.e. she wasn't too prim and high maintenance) as a detective. More to the point, she offered the audience more than just T&A (not that there's anything wrong with that on its own). Without Kate/Sabrina anchoring everything the show more or less, pretty much became a parody of itself.

Totally agree about Kate/Sabrina. Without Kate, the show definitely lacked something.

However, I don't think the show became a parody of itself until season 5.

Totally agree. Didn't watch it much after Kate left.

Well I think Kate started it first, rumoured to only munch vitamin pills off set. Then it became contagious for awhile as Jacklyn Smith lost some weight.

I haven't followed Kate Jackson's career at all so I assume the problem corrected itself over time.

I don't think there was a "problem". Kate was noticeably thinner by season 3, but she was healthy. Her mid-section, arm and shoulder muscles were showing. She always had nicely shaped backside and legs, more so than the other angels. I have candid pics of Kate in a bikini when they were filming in Hawaii and she looked great... I'll post them when I find them.

Good question.

However, I loved season 1, 2, 3 and 4. I like season 5, but it was my least favorite.
