I used to love this show. I remembered that, as a kid, I had Captain Power's and Lord Dread's ships, complete with action figures. I tried to shoot all of the glowing Bio-Dread's while attempting to avoid having my action figure ejected by enemy blasts! When the show never showed up for a 2nd season, I played on the VHS mission games included with the toys until I wore the tapes out. When I've thought about it in later years, I always assumed that the child version of me must have loved it for the sci-fi action and toy tie-in, but that the adult me couldn't possibly still like it as much as it was an obvious marketing ploy for children. However, it looks like it might be worth a 2nd viewing as an adult... I'm surprised by all of the creative talent that was on this show, and the projects they moved on to.

Captain Power was actually based on a Mattel toyline that was very popular in 1986-87 I believe and I didn't know that Captain Power was actually a show until I saw a poster for it in my Barbie magazine. And if Captain Power would've still been successful for Mattel more episodes of the show would've been made. But it was a smart choice after seeing what He-Man became for Mattel

Captain Power the toyline was a direct tie in with the show and they were released at the same time. The toys used a light technology (along the lines of the original Nintendo Zapper gun) that were interactive with each other. They both failed because the toys were extremely expensive, with the larger ships and playsets (what was actually the interactive toys, the figures themselves were not), most retailing at about $60-125 (adjusted for inflation about $85-200 in today)
