Question Could a show like "Diff'rent Strokes" work today

My biggest concern if you want to call it that is that it would immediately and rather cynically be written off as just another "white savior narrative" a la the movie The Blind Side (which is also about a ne'er do well white family "rescuing" a poor, virtually orphaned black kid).

Maybe. But I would like to see a show with the roles reverse. That I would like to see.

Just watch the original.

You mean rich white kids adopted by a black ghetto family?

Other than today's shows descending to the lowest common denominator I might actually watch that myself.

I mean a rich black family adopting white kids who were rich but now are poor. There are rich black families today and this would be a fresh change.

^^This.

Not as a reboot of DS but let it be its own show. It's okay that DS is an influence, but most reboots offer so little that holds up even on original transmission. Let a new show be made where a black couple adopts the children of a white single parent/friend who died tragically. Or replace "white" with "Asian", I watch shows because they're engaging and well-written and can reach out to everyone without pandering. Let the characters be their own characters and that's half the problem solved there and then.
