Television programs with title screens very 'of that time' - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What I mean is the font, the color palette, the multiplication of the name, and the music in the intro that which were typical of that era (or best represented the "stereotype" of its respected decade)?

For the lettering font, I think That Girl had a very 1960s style. It looked out of date as the series entered the early 1970s. Get Smart also had '60s lettering, but it was later changed (updated) during that same era of more modern-looking letters.

When The Donna Reed Show began in the 1950s, the opening title lettering was very formal -- and representative of its era, more-or-less. It was changed to a less rigid, informal and more specialized '60s look.

But by contrast, certainly other series went from informal to formal. Leave It to Beaver began with informal letters drawn in wet cement, but later changed to a more common sitcom approach. The Lucy Show is another example of more playful lettering changed into a much more formal look.

One nomination I'll throw in is The Partridge Family. The colorful animated birds and the two theme songs "When We're Singing" in the first season and "Come on Get Happy" for the remainder of the run.

The Brady Bunch (self-explanatory)

Bewitched (self-explanatory)

1973 version of Match Game (waka-waka guitar chord in the intro, funky 70s fashion the celebrities sported)

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (graffiti-like font/color, rap beat/lyrics that's reminiscent of the old-skool hip-hop sound)

The Electric Company (self-explanatory)

Most Miller-Boyett-Milikis-Warren programs (self-explanatory)

As far as Brady Bunch and Bewitched, anyone who watches those intros and is even somewhat familiar with 60s / 70s pop culture will immediately be able to tell they're straight out of the late 60s / early 70s (unlike say the intro to a show like Frasier).

The Bradys from 1990 had a bunch of funky geometry going on in the intro. Very late-80s/early-90s.

Doogie Howser MD with the late-80s computer look. The title screen and the way each cast member's name was "typed" onscreen.

Trying to think of any NY based shows that showed the grittiness of the 70s. Perhaps Barney Miller with the old NYC skyline?

Especially when they had that garbage scow rolling in front of the skyline (or what appeared to be a garbage scow).

Batman (1966) reflected pop-art comic trends of the mid-'60s -- popularized by Roy Lichtenstein and others. The theme music was very '60s as well (especially the strong drums on the closing).

I think Cannon (William Conrad) had a very '70s look to its opening -- and in later seasons, the theme music became more digital-sounding, reflecting digitized effects in popular music.

The later seasons of The Big Valley and Branded both had strong, powerful graphics; they were mid-to-late '60s styles of openings where special effects were becoming more prominent.

The Jeffersons has that gospel flavored theme Movin On Up and the title credits done in the Bauhaus font are definitely a thing of the 70s.
