Default Girl Meets World Season 3 Premiere Recap: What the Hole Just Happened?

http://tvline.com/2016/06/03/girl-me...y-lucas-fight/

Quote:
The halls were alive with the sound of injustice on Friday’s Girl Meets World season premiere. For starters, all of Riley and Maya’s worst fears about high school came true when a (seemingly) menacing trio of seniors forced the GMW crew to stand in a literal hole on their first day. And although the presumed bullies later explained they were just trying to give Riley and her friends some perspective, their words did little to quell the growing rift between them. Not only did the hole drive Riley and Lucas apart - Riley is, for some reason, taking most of the blame for all of this - but it even caused Farkle to turn his back on the girls who used to own his heart. (Darn it, Farkle! Who gave you

Default Girl Meets World: "Girl Meets High School - Part One" Review

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/...art-one-review

Quote:
Girl Meets World kicked off Season 3 with some notable changes, as the gang entered high school. First and foremost, the show got a brand new intro paying homage to the college days of Boy Meets World, water prank and all -- although, I'm glad they kept the original theme song from Seasons 1 and 2, since that tune is still so catchy. Of course, the other big addition here was the oh-so cleverly named Abigail Adams High School, which included a couple of new sets: the main hallway, which, interestingly, was broken up into three separate levels (more on that in a moment); and Cory's classroom, which reversed the layout of the desks and chairs. -- Smackle realizing they weren't "gonna run this place" like they thought they would is classic Boy Meets World, especially in that all the upperclassmen were north of six feet tall and apparently 30 years old.

The show is horribly written. There is no subtlety. There is no plot. There is no realism, and thusly, with no realism, there is no way to IMPLEMENT these lessons in a realistic way.

The other Disney shows currently airing along side GMW are 10x better at getting their life lessons across without being preachy, and they are more entertaining in the process. This is because they are written by relatively younger (20-40-year old) writers who are more in touch with the realities of life in 2016, which makes them far more authentic than this melodramatic tripe Michael Jacobs is spewing out week after week.

The writers have a responsibility to address how the world is. Not just create whatever their ideal world is. The first two episodes of the season were absolutely horrifically bad. You can't use metaphors like that with such a young audience, and if you use metaphor, don't spell it out, as it loses its meaning. You cannot just preach to young people that it's okay if someone walks all over you and shoves you in a hole, because maybe they're trying to teach you something.

There is a difference between writing for kids and being out of touch with reality. Jacobs is the latter and is confusing it with the former because he doesn't have experience with the real world, ironically.

I am ALL for teaching morals... But it has to be effective, it has to be entertaining and it has to be in a way that can actually be implemented and would actually, workably, better someone's life.

This show is an old man trying to push life experiences when they don't call for it. Nobody on BMW (even Topanga) was a role model or did the right thing everyone on GMW is either too smart beyond their years or worse get the life lesson too easily and accept it. BMW tended to balance showing & telling pretty well, but GMW tends more toward loading the dialogue and not doing much showing (or showing poorly/unrealistically).

I agree. It's way too preachy and dialogue is lousy. I mean who talks like that? There only kids.
