Jennifer Aniston’s estranged mom, former actress Nancy Dow, dies at 79

Nancy Dow, a former actress and mother to star Jennifer Aniston, died Wednesday at the age of 79.

The death, reported by In Touch magazine, reportedly came two weeks after the “Friends” star visited her estranged mom.

Dow was suffering from a series of strokes and had lost the ability to speak and walk, according to the gossip site.

“Jen must have had a wake-up call and wanted to see her mother one last time before she passes,” a source dished to the magazine.

The women have long had a tumultuous relationship since Dow published a tell-all book in 1999 titled “From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir”.

Nine years later, the mother-daughter duo broke their years of silence after Aniston’s high profile divorce from Brad Pitt.

"It's been really nice. It's crazy what, you know, your life kind of being turned upside down will lead you to. ... For us it's ... It was the time and it was going to happen when it was supposed to happen. So this is good. It's baby steps,” Aniston told “Good Morning America" at the time.

Still, the relationship reportedly remained strained with little contact. Aniston put their differences aside in 2011 when Dow suffered a stroke in Los Angeles.

Last year, the 47-year-old opened up on the rocky relationship, telling the Hollywood Reporter that Dow was “very critical."

“Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn't. I never was. I honestly still don't think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine,” she explained.

Despite describing the Aniston matriarch as “unforgiving,” Aniston stressed she wasn’t holding grudges.

“There are people in my life that are like, 'How do you even talk to that guy?' But what's the point of holding on to (anger)? That's so toxic,” she added.

Dow, a Connecticut native, briefly appeared on the small screen in the late 1960s, with roles in television shows “The Beverly Hillbillies” and “The Wild Wild West.”

She married soap actor John Aniston in 1965 and the pair divorced when Jennifer was 9-years-old.

Those of you who enjoyed reading this thread, might be interested in a thread that I just posted on the "Gimme a Break!" page of this site. It is called "Nancy's Wedding". I would be very interested in what any of you think of it.

Jennifer Aniston's ambivalent feelings towards her late mom - who died three months ago at age 79 - continue. Now comes word that the 47-year-old Mother's Day star is refusing to take Nancy Dow's ashes and wants them nowhere near her

Jennifer attended the memorial service but when she was asked if she wanted to take Nancy's ashes, the actress reportedly said no.

'She said, "I don't want them,"' a source close to the family told the publication, adding: 'Someone tried to say that Jen thinks having the ashes around her home is morbid, that it's not her style.'

Jennifer's rejection came as somewhat of a shock to family and friends in spite of the distant mother-daughter relationship.

'Everyone knows that she and Nancy had a horrible relationship,' the source continued. 'She was an absentee daughter and now, even with Nancy gone, it seems that she still doesn't want her mom around.' Jennifer and Nancy's 'feud goes beyond the grave,'

The former Friends star had not seen her mother in several years, not since Nancy's stroke in 2011.

Then last spring, Jennifer flew to Los Angeles to say her final goodbyes to Nancy, who the source described as 'sick, frail and alone' during her final months before she passed away on May 25.

In Touch Weekly reported that Jennifer's husband, Justin Theroux, attended the memorial with his wife.

The source told the publication that Justin 'still thought Jen would take the ashes.'

Jennifer's complicated feelings for her mother have dogged her through most of her adult life.

The actress stopped speaking to Nancy altogether after the latter published a book, From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Jennifer revealed how 'critical' her mother was of her.

'She was critical. She was very critical of me,' Jennifer said. 'Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn't. I never was.

'I honestly still don't think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.'

Does Jennifer has any siblings. I wonder what their feelings are. Being strained with a parent is something I can't comprehend. I had a great relationship with my folks.
