Default Here’s why ‘Supergirl’s’ move to the CW is the win-win scenario it deserved all along

“SUPERGIRL’s” move from CBS to the CW, which was announced Thursday ahead of this month’s TV network upfronts, shouldn’t be looked upon like a demotion to the minors after a year in the broadcast “big leagues.” If anything, a new season on the CW could be just what the show needs to soar highly creatively - and become more in touch with its characters’ comic-book roots. CBS, of course, needed more ratings bang for its bucks (a reported $3 million an episode). To be sure, that big-time investment popped on the screen: The show looked spectacular, from Supergirl’s well-designed costume to the often-splashy special effects. Much of the budget clearly was spent on such Supergirl powers as flight,

We'll, the CW is keeping it Mon at 8 opposite Gotham, so that hasn't changed.

Default Why ‘Supergirl’ is a Better Fit For The CW

http://www.twcc.com/articles/2016/05...fit-for-the-cw

Quote:
The CW Is a Magnet For Comic-Con Worthy Shows

With shows like The 100, The Originals and The Flash already on its roster, the CW already has a sturdy stable of Comic-con friendly shows that are geared toward a younger audience. In addition, Supergirl’s crossover with The Flash earlier this year was a success, giving both shows sweet ratings boosts and proving that this could indeed be a match made in TV heaven.

And that’s just the beginning. Ahead of the CW’s upfront presentation, network boss Mark Pedowitz told reporters that the network is planning an epic four-way crossover with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in December.

CBS Audiences Are More…Mature

The CBS audience doesn’t exactly consist of a bunch of fanboys. The network is known for dramas like CSI, NCIS, and The Good Wife and never seemed like the right home for the Melissa Benoist superhero drama.

While Supergirl averaged a 2.5 rating in the adults 18-49 and was CBS’ top-rated new drama in the demo (and its youngest-skewing new drama), the network’s audience is generally older and ratings tapered off significantly over the first season. And even Pedowitz agreed Supergirl landed in the wrong place for its first season.

“The fact it’s now moved to the CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don’t think it will have a big impact on the tone,” Pedowitz said. “This is a good thing for The CW, our parent companies [Warner Bros. and CBS Corp.] recognized this was the right place for it, and were deeply supportive across the board.”

The CW Will Give Supergirl A Chance At Longevity

Ratings be damned! Pedowitz is known for standing behind the CW’s shows. Case in point: Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend both suffered from low ratings early on, but Pedowitz said he had faith in the shows, and their Golden Globe-winning stars proved that he was right to give them a second shot.

Even though ratings could struggle, the CW is Supergirl’s best bet at a chance for a second life. Not only does the network have a young skew, but Pedowitz has been vocal about his regrets of not going after the show when it was first pitched.

In addition, cost-cutting measures could make Supergirl cheaper to produce, which will help its chances of staying afloat. For Season 2, Supergirl will move its production from Los Angeles to Vancouver to cut expenses. While that could mean a star or two may fly the coop, the move will bring Supergirl into the same universe as all of producer Greg Berlanti’s other CW superhero dramas. Home sweet home!
