TV CBS Renews "The Talk" for 2021-22 Season

CBS Renews Entire Daytime Lineup
by Andy Swift
April 27, 2016

The network on Wednesday announced renewals for all five of its daytime series.

Panel show "The Talk" will be back for its 7th season.

Each year, CBS Daytime produces more than 1,000 episodes of programming – the most for any broadcast network – which is only possible due to the incredible passion of the industry’s best creative talent, both in front of and behind the camera,” Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs and Syndicated Program Development, CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution, said in a statement.

Next year will be even bigger and bolder!

CBS Renews Entire Daytime Lineup
by Keisha Hatchett
June 20, 2017

It looks like CBS' daytime programming will remain intact. The network announced that it has renewed its entire lineup heading into next season.

Among the list is chat show "The Talk".

"CBS Daytime has never been stronger. From 30 consecutive years of being #1 in the ratings, to another year as the most honored Network at the Daytime Emmys, our lineup of talk, game shows and dramas connects with our audience like no one else," Angelica McDaniel, EVP of Daytime Programs and Syndicated Program Development at CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution said.

"All of our talent, on screen and behind the scenes, is hard at work making the upcoming season of these award-winning series even bigger and bolder."

CBS Renews Entire Daytime Lineup
by Erik Pedersen
April 30, 2019

CBS has renewed its entire daytime lineup for the 2019-20 season, including chat show "The Talk", long-running soaps "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Young and the Restless" and veteran game shows "The Price is Right" and "Let’s Make a Deal".

The bring-backs aren’t a big surprise, as the network boasts a 32-year winning streak in daytime ratings. It also has the most 2019 Daytime Emmy nominations of any network.

For almost a third of a century, CBS has demonstrated a remarkable legacy of success in Daytime,” said Angelica McDaniel, EVP CBS Daytime Programs and Syndicated Programs Development.

Our programming continues to maintain a level of achievement unheard of in today’s television landscape, thanks to the passion and dedication of the extraordinary producers, casts, staff and crew on the shows, our studio partners, and most importantly, the fans.

Hosted by Eve, Sara Gilbert, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood, "The Talk" will turn 10 this upcoming season.

The chat show is averaging 2.39 million viewers this season and is up for eight Daytime Emmys including Outstanding Talk Show.

If The Talk don’t find someone to succeed Sharon Osborne then the show should be finally done by now.

Report: Carrie Ann Inaba to exit The Talk -- CBS is seeking a man to replace her

Page Six reports that Inaba, who's been on leave since April to focus on her health, isn't returning to the CBS daytime talk show. To fill her spot, a source says CBS is seeking a man. The Talk recently added Jerry O'Connell as its first male co-host.

The Talk is down to three co-hosts following Elaine Welteroth's exit

Welteroth, the former Teen Vogue editor who joined the CBS daytime talk show full-time in January, is the second The Talk co-host to exit this month, after Carrie Ann Inaba, and the third this year, after Sharon Osbourne. Welteroth's departure means there are only three co-hosts for the start of the new season on Sept. 13: Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and the recently hired Jerry O’Connell, who replaced Osbourne. Underwood, the longest-serving The Talk star who joined the show in 2011, is also the only co-host who was with the show at the start of the 2020-2021 TV season. (Kloots joined The Talk with Welteroth in January following Eve's departure.) “It is an absolute honor for anyone, but especially a young Black woman, to occupy space on-air where our perspectives are largely underrepresented,” said Welteroth in a statement. “It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for. I came to The Talk to break out of my own echo chamber and to join a diverse cast in helping to bridge some of the divides in our world through conversation and empathy. I’m proud of how I represented myself and my community. But as I always say: When the music changes, so must your dance! I will miss my talented co-hosts and crew and I wish them the very best. Thanks to all those who tuned in every day. I’m excited to continue these necessary conversations in my work and to share my upcoming creative projects soon.”

Natalie Morales is set to join CBS' The Talk after 22 years at NBC News

The Dateline correspondent and Today show West Coast anchor announced her exit from NBC News this afternoon, with Today producer Tom Mazzarelli saying that Morales has “been offered an opportunity she’s passionate about." That opportunity is The Talk, according to The Daily Mail and other outlets. The Daily Mail says Morales is "off to save The Talk" following Sharon Osbourne and Carrie Ann Inaba's exit. Though CBS hasn't made Morales' The Talk hiring official, she's expected to join Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and recent additions Jerry O'Connell and Akbar Gbajabiamila on the CBS daytime show. Morales won't be departing NBC News just yet. She'll appear on Dateline through the end of the year, and will be given a sendoff on the Today show sometime in the next few weeks. Morales joined NBC 22 years ago at its Connecticut station. In 2006, she joined NBC's Today show as national correspondent and a co-anchor of its third hour, rising to its news anchor in 2011. "To my Dateline and Today show families, it’s very hard to say goodbye … and we all know in this business it’s never goodbye but see you later,” Morales wrote a memo to her NBC News staff. “I’m eternally grateful for the support and deep friendships that will remain no matter where our paths lead. I have so much to be thankful for and for every one of you who helped me get here … muchísimas gracias mis amigos.”

Natalie Morales on leaving Today for The Talk: "I needed a change"

"I had been there a long time and being out here in Los Angeles, I wasn't getting to do as many of the things that I wanted to do," Morales tells People of her Today exit after two decades. After four months on The Talk, she's finding gratification and purpose. "I knew that this was going to be a great opportunity to really revamp the show and bring it back to what it was meant to be at the beginning," she said of The Talk. "This is a good, positive place. We're having fun, smart conversations that hopefully engage the audience at home."
