I found an LA Times article about Columbia Pictures' woes under Coca-Cola's management, and it had this example of what was going on:

Meanwhile, feathers have been ruffled at Columbia Pictures Television, under Chairman and Chief Executive Gary Lieberthal, who came from a background in television programming sales at Embassy. Lieberthal so alienated "Facts of Life" star Nancy McKeon last year that she took her next series to 20th Century Fox Film, according to her manager, Greg H. Sims.

"He has no clue about handling creative talent, nor does he seem to recognize their importance," Sims says. Among his complaints: a deaf ear to McKeon's suggestions in the show's ninth and final season, and a meager tribute at the end, with "wrap" party fare of "beer and chips."

Wow. They really didn't like Nancy huh? I think they probably resented her because she did a Strike against the show and the Network in 1984 because of their meager pay....

I wonder what Nancy's suggestions were for the final season though?

it never said they didn't like Nancy Mckeon. It said they didn't like working with her manager.

Nancy took her next series to another company because Columbia alienated her so much. Well, she sure showed them! She deprived them of that great big giant hit she did next. Uh, what was that called again?

I also wonder what her suggestions for season 9 were. Probably wanted her hair to be bigger.

In all fairness how many pilots don't get past the script stage/development yearly regardless of whom is connected with them or what hit show they were on before.
