Default So sad this show has not been in syndication for years

It seems like this show will never be seen or heard from again. The last time it showed up in Amercia on National cable was on Nick at Nite in the early 2000s and On Demand for Comcast users. It aired on Me-TV before it went national but not since. Since then it has disappeared to never return.

We have so many new classic stations coming from diginets but none of them offer this show. It would fit perfectly on FamilyNet, Me-TV or Antenna TV.

It is a shame that such a good show has totally disappeared from daily airings.

I agree. This show should be on again. It's been too long.

It had an on again, off again run on WBSK 38 which then became UPN back in Mass.

If I recall correctly, the late 1980s it was on WBSK in re-runs during the day. Then in 1996 it was in reruns again, I think back to back with Punky Brewster. Then both shows were dropped completely after that. I know in summer of 1996 it was still in reruns on there.

Then they did the Nick At Nite Revenge Of the 80s and aired it one night for 9 or so episodes that were a selection of seasons 1-5 and then it never aired again after spring of 2001.

If I remember correctly, Judith Moose, who I think put together a book on the show, around 2002, said that there were talks of the show doing a TV reunion Movie like the Facts Of Life did and it would have explained that after the series ended, Kate got pregnant and gave birth and Rick and Alfonso delivered it on the staircase or something and in the reunion it picks up years later with the baby now a teenger. But that was what she had told me once, so I don't know if it was going to happen or not, but as we all can see, it didn't.

Then we got the season 1 DVD in the mid 2000s and no other DVDs since.

Silver Spoons seems to be one of those shows that was reasonably successful during its original run, but hasn't enjoyed everlasting influence in the public's consciousness. I think one reason is that SS was a show that was a perfect example of living on a "gimmick" that was unique for its time. In this case, a show about a man-child father with a model train in the house. Also, SS was likely a victim of the safe formula that most '80s sitcoms (post-Diff'rent Strokes/pre-Cosby Show) had fallen into:
*Problem comes up
*Problem is discussed
*Problem is resolved
*Resolution is discussed, show ends with a hug or a laugh. And of course, nothing that happens in the episode will in any way affect the next episode.

All in all, watching a show like Silver Spoons in hindsight, arguably feels like simply watching a recording a stage play. The characters are pretty bland. The kids are cute and the parents just react to their antics with a smile and a wave of their head. Romances were very clean, major issues were discussed quietly, and all problems were resolved at the end with two (or more) characters talking out the issue and ending with a big hug or a laugh.

I came back her to ask why Silver Spoons doesn't seem to get much play anymore. It seems like if it weren't for Ricky Schroder's recent controversies, most people wouldn't give this show the time or the place. Let me explain more clearly. Can you currently get Silver Spoons any channels where you live at any given time. And no, I'm not counting digital subchannels like Antenna TV.

The rest of the series to the best of my knowledge isn't on DVD and the only streaming sites that have it also just have Season 1. And it's not even the same uncut versions the DVD set had.

The Roku channel switches up which seasons that they offer. They offer more than just season one.

The Roku Channel is currently running seasons 1and 5 only, aside from spotting fresh faces like Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Berkeley the show is just as bad as I remember as a kid.

I think I watched it out of habit as NBC had planned the perfect Sunday line-up with Punky Brewster, Silver Spoons and Knight Rider.

I'll take that formula anytime over today's unfunny garbage shows.

You can blame Rick Schoeder's behavior as one of the reasons.

Nothing at all... he only has psychotic meltdowns while harassing Costco workers.
