Earlier this week, it was announced that the cast of Friends would reunite for a one-off two hour special, almost 12 years after the original show ended.

Frequently held up as one the best ever TV sitcoms, the shows and its six stars have become famous worldwide, loved by millions. But while five of the main characters are decent, if sometimes misguided people, one of them is irredeemably awful – Ross Geller.

He may have the show’s most enduring love story arc, but throughout that arc he is aggressive, possessive, jealous, petty and vindictive. He also keeps an illegal and potentially virus-ridden pet monkey in one of the biggest cities in the world – not cool.

He gets increasingly unlikable as the seasons progress, and his individual story might as well be subtitled “The Making Of A Men’s Rights Activist”. If he were real he’d be preparing to picket outside the new Ghostbusters film because its stars are female.
