"Happy Days Again" (original syndication intro)

I just read that when Happy Days went into syndication in 1979 as Happy Days Again, that they used Bill Haley and The Comets' original recording of "Rock Around The Clock" from the '50s instead of the 1974 re-recording that had been used on the intro for seasons one and two.

How come I never noticed that back in '79?

I don't remember the music change, but it was common back then to put reruns of a currently-running show under a slightly different name. The Andy Griffith Show ran as Andy of Mayberry in CBS Daytime, and The Dick Van Dyke Show became The Dick Van Dyke Daytime Show there as well. Also Laverne & Shirley was syndicated as Laverne & Shirley & Company while it was still in prime-time.

I think that this practice came to an end around the late 1970s, as M*A*S*H was syndicated under its own name after 7 seasons in prime-time (It ran 11 seasons overall.), and then shows like The Cosby Show went into syndication after only 4 seasons under its original name, leading other sitcoms to do that going forward.

Me too, but I've seen this intro before. The sitcoms online Happy Days page has this intro but it's a real old file and the quality isn't great.

A few years back, I also found the Season 5 and 9 intros with the Happy Days Again intro on YouTube.

I see whiteness too. I will say I've seen the Happy Days Again more than once. Also, Laverne and Shirley had there full names in the title during, I think, season 1.

Maybe they thought people would get confused and think that the daily reruns were new shows?

Kind of silly, because ABC aired daily morning reruns of Happy Days from the third through the sixth seasons under it's original name while new shows were being aired in prime-time.

Same for All In The Family over at CBS.

I remember being excited that Happy Days was going to be on every weekday, but confused when I saw the opening credits.

I had a question....does anyone ever see the Happy Days Again opening on reruns anymore? The last time I remember seeing it was on the episode Home Movies Part 2.....any other episodes? (A long time ago I remember it was on a number of season 10 episodes, but that's been years ago.)

Here is all the commercial breaks during a complete airing of a Christmas episode of "Happy Days Again" on WFLD Channel 32 (from the days when syndicated reruns of shows still on the air bore differing titles, though in this case Happy Days had left the ABC Network airwaves in September 1984). Like most syndicated shows in those days, WFLD ran this from an already-showing-signs-of-use 16mm print.

No, it is not the episode where Fonzie literally jumps the shark - though this one came after that turning point in the show's history. Instead, it is a Fonzie- and Christmas-themed episode, "Christmas Time," originally aired over the ABC Network (and thus, in Chicago, via WLS Channel 7) on December 19th 1978 (Season 6, Episode 16). This features Eddie Fontaine as Fonzie's father, Vito Fonzarelli, and Lynda Goodfriend as Lori Beth Allen. The episode was written by Beverly Bloomberg and directed by Jerry Paris.
