Sad Vh1 cancels all music video programming - RIP (1985-2015)

Vh1's THE TOP 20 Countdown has been canceled

The series finale aired on November 28th, 2015, with the last number one on the show belonging to Drake's "Hotline Bling". The shows's cancellation was on December 5, 2015, making it the longest running countdown series of all time (21 years).

I guess that makes VH1 somewhat of an artifact title, just like MTV-- no more music videos, and pretty much all reality.

Default MTV still has music in the mornings

Plus, the rise of music-on-demand sites like YouTube, Pandora, and Spotify have made music videos on TV increasingly obsolete and less attractive to advertisers. That's why you gotta pay extra for the 24-hour music video channels that do exist (MTV Hits and MTV Jams, any others?)

Odd that VH1 would use a variant of its original 80s logo while not having music video blocks anymore. Ironically, VH1 continued to show music videos in the 9-11 am hours in the late 2000s-2014 or 2015 I believe (when "modern" MTV would stop the music at 9).

Doesn't MTV stand for music television videos.? If so they need to change for not much music anymore.

Probably just as well as most pop music today is terrible anyway.

At this point, I seriously don't understand what direction VH1 is going towards? I know that when it was first created, VH1 was pretty much MTV for baby boomers or for your parents. Now, it's like MTV, primarily a reality TV (mostly concerning celeb-reality-entertainment/pop culture) channel w/ some sitcoms like My Wife and Kids and The Jamie Foxx Show thrown in for good measure. They are a lot of programming that theoretically, would've been better, more logical fits on BET.

Oh No

VH1 might as well call themselves NVH "No Video Hits"!

Another station that sold-out to the corporate world!

I tuned into MTV Classic recently and found that interesting - a Bruce Springsteen video I hadn't seen before. There are ways to program channels that can make it interesting and allow for all different content (including older programs) - but the people that have the jobs (and the money) don't have a clue what they're doing.

VH1 now that I've thought about it some more, has pretty much become "BET lite". It's like they had a huge success w/ Flavor of Love and decided to run with it pretty much.
