Default Robin Williams should have starred in a premium cable show instead

If (the late) Robin Williams wanted to return to television after almost three decades as a big-time feature-film star, then why couldn't he have gotten himself a show on a premium-cable channel such as HBO instead of a show on a commercial broadcast network or a basic-cable channel?

"Stay Safe"? More like "Stay Sad".

The late Robin Williams had such an exalted, varied film career that many forgot it was a television sitcom that gave him his first big break. Mork and Mindy introduced his zany improvisational comedic skills to the world. He rose to the A-list quickly, and his body of work speaks for itself.

So it was odd seeing Williams join Sarah Michelle Gellar on the stale CBS comedy The Crazy Ones, where they played father and daughter who work together at an advertising agency. The show’s premise revolved around Gellar’s character constantly trying to keep her scatterbrained father in line.

It was formulaic and lukewarm at best.
Even Kelley admitted this, saying “Robin Williams was great… but the stories made me want to hold my nose.” Williams admitted he just took the role to help with financial woes.

I had high expectations for this show, but they were dashed when I saw the pilot.

Something about Robin Williams seemed off, it seemed like we were getting a watered down, toned down Robin Williams. I think he must have already been suffering from the lewy body dementia that caused him to take his own life.

It was a very disappointing show given the pedigree of the talent involved both behind of and in front of the camera.

What do you mean "would"? Don't you mean " should have"?

I tried to watch Williams' show, but it just was not very good. It did not do a very good job tapping into his talents and just fell flat. Not to mention the other characters were not interesting.

Even if the show was a runaway success, Williams would have been too sick to continue the show for too many more years. I saw a documentary on Williams' death and he was really going into deep mental illness because of the dementia. He would do strange things like putting his watches into socks and other very strange nonsensical behavior. The documentary opined that Williams was truly out of his mind when he committed suicide, as in it wasn't a (somewhat) rational act where someone truly decides to end it, but that his mental illness and the agony of his condition caused him to do it.

If Williams was physically and mentally healthy, the suicide would not have happened, and it didn't happen because of depression or because of his career.

I didn't know anything about his problems until later. That show should have been a red flag.
