Update: Rita Ora Announced as New "America's Next Top Model" Host on VH1
"America's Next Top Model" To End after 12 Years on the Air
October 14, 2015 by Michael O'Connell "America's Next Top Model" will be ending after its current 22nd cycle. After 12 years on the air, the fashion-focused reality competition will air its final episode this fall. Creator and host Tyra Banks signaled the news on Wednesday, tweeting, "Thinking #ANTM22 should be our last cycle. I truly believe it's time. May your pics be forever fierce. Keep on Smizing!" The CW confirmed the news shortly afterwards. "America's Next Top Model" has held a unique distinction on the TV dial. It moved over to The CW's inaugural season in 2006 from the UPN — and it's been the last lingering series from the now-defunct network for some time. Produced by The Tyra Banks Company (formerly Bankable Productions), the series is responsible for launching the career of several models and actresses. Adrianne Curry, YaYa DaCosta and Analeigh Tipton are all "Top Model" graduates. "America's Next Top Model was a successful franchise for two networks," said CW president Mark Pedowitz. "First at UPN and then The CW, and it became not just a ratings hit, but a global pop culture phenomenon. I want to thank Tyra and Ken for all their years of success in establishing a show that was not just popular in the U.S., but all across the world." The show has also been a pretty stable performer for The CW, airing late-summer/early-fall on Friday nights of late. The current season is averaging a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers. It's also the only hour-long reality entry in The CW's relatively thin unscripted stable. The network has recently focused that arena on comedic-skewing entries like "Penn & Teller" and the revival of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?". Tyra Banks is also suffering no shortage of work at the moment. Her syndicated panel talk show "FABLife", on which she stars and executive produces, has gotten off to a strong start with daytime audiences. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...del-end-832162 |

ANTM wouldn’t be what it is without Tyra Banks, says Margaret Lyons. "Part of the joy of Top Model's earliest seasons was just how raw and unexpected it felt. All the contestants were beautiful, so how come they couldn't all look beautiful in photographs? Indeed, this is called modeling, and Tyra Banks was here to teach us about it.” PLUS: Looking back at ANTM’s cultural impact. |

Return of the Smize! "America's Next Top Model" is Coming Back
by Liam Mathews Feb 23, 2016 Less than three months after being canceled by The CW, "America's Next Top Model" is getting resurrected on VH1. VH1 announced Tuesday that the modeling competition reality show has been picked up for a 14-episode season, after running for 22 seasons on The CW and UPN, its precursor. Executive producers Ken Mok and Tyra Banks will return, but Banks will no longer host. "I will continue as executive producer but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host," Banks said in a statement. "I'm pumped to identify that person and bring back the show. Top Model fans, you demanded that the show come back, and VH1 answered the call. Get ready for a fierce-a-fied rebirth!" http://www.tvguide.com/news/return-o...s-coming-back/ |

Rita Ora Replaces Tyra Banks as "America's Next Top Model" Host
by Charlie Mason 7/22/16 When "America’s Next Top Model" sends its 23rd season down the runway this fall, its network won’t be the only thing different about it: Rita Ora is replacing Tyra Banks as host, our sister site Variety reports. Tyra Banks will remain an EP as well as pop up now and again throughout the season. British singer-actress Rita Ora has previously been a coach on "The Voice" and a judge on "The X-Factor" in the UK. Her new ANTM judging panel will be made up of plus-size supermodel Ashley Graham, Paper Magazine‘s Drew Elliott and stylist Law Roach. According to VH1, ANTM will “reflect the modeling industry today.” http://tvline.com/2016/07/22/america...replaced-host/ |
