TV ABC Eyes "Fantasy Island" Remake

"Fantasy Island" Remake in the Works at ABC with Female Lead from Sheldon Turner
by Nellie Andreeva
October 12, 2015

Following the "Hart To Hart" remake with a gay couple, which was set up at NBC, Sony TV is rebooting another classic 1970s drama series from the Spelling-Goldberg catalog, "Fantasy Island", with a major twist (or two).

The project has landed at ABC with penalty.

Written by Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air), the new take goes further in shaking up the original concept — about a tropical island where people pay to go and live out their fantasies — than the 1998 revival, also on ABC.

Gone is the island where both series were set, with Fantasy Island as the name of a company that designs and executes fantasies for clients. In another major change, the enigmatic Fantasy Island owner Mr. Roarke, played by Ricardo Montalban and Malcolm McDowell in the two previous versions, will be a woman.

The new "Fantasy Island" centers on a brilliant, dynamic and sexy woman who runs a San Francisco-based company that provides clients with his or her most intimate, dark or outlandish fantasy.

Like the original series, each episode is expected to chronicle two fantasies, with an overarching serialized arc involving Roarke and her personal life.

I swear these networks should knock it off with these classic tv show reboots. We have Hart To Hart, The A-Team,MacGyver, reboots all planned and now Fantasy Island!? Gees can't these networks leave these classic shows alone?

I threw up in my mouth a bit. Roarke has always been a suave, handsome man (and IMO, the only Roarke is Ricardo Montalban!). I find it awful that they'd even think of turning Roarke female!! It's insulting. I don't support this disgraceful mess one bit.

This remake is gonna stink, what a disgrace to the late ricardo montalban

even the 1998 reboot is better than this one.

Somebody said it best, leave these classic shows alone period.

I'd rather see these guys play Mr. Roarke and Tattoo.

Yep! I didn't care for the 90s version of the show, but yeah, I'll agree there!

I thought the 90's version was just as great as the original.

To be quite honest, I barely remember the 90s version.. I just remember that I didn't like it. But, I was young, so I might have to give it a revisit sometime.

It's not that they're disgracing classic shows. They have no talent or imagination so they can't come up with anything new.

No. Leave the classics alone. Just no.

Oh yeah because the Malcolm McDowell version went over like a lead balloon let's try it again. What on earth are they thinking?
